@IH8RUST That’s good that they were willing to correct the problem! On my end, as soon as I identified the issue to them - and you have to give people an opportunity to correct their mistakes - they followed up with two more mistakes. At that point I washed my hands of the whole thing.

@KC Masterpiece Remember the lower half of the fuel tank needle sweep goes faster than the upper half on 60s. It doesn’t track in a linear fashion. Hopefully you’re still seeing an improvement in mpg, but if you have 100 miles from the full to the halfway mark you’re not going to get 100 miles from halfway down to empty.

@IH8RUST how the heck does this ccot console install? Did you have to drill out and retap the factory points? I think I was sent the pre 85 bracket because I cant figure this out.

Getting projects done so I just went for it. Needed to slightly enlarge the mounting holes on the console. I found that it did mount to a single forward point on the floor. All of the mounting points got drilled out and tapped to work with the supplied hardware. I need one more bolt for the front point.

Shifting with an armrest is nice. Shifter clears the thermos in all gears.

And found a good spot for the Bender sticker.

Yo, I didn't have to drill or retap mine; it was just really awkward to get the bracker aligned to fasten. Glad you got it sorted out, looks great, and the height feels just right!

When I installed mine I don't recall having to change the factory points. The main work for me was installing a CB inside the console, which involved not only physically mounting the radio (I fabbed a mounting plate) but also a power switch and mic mount on the front of the console.

Last leak (for now) was the PS gearbox. I swaped in an 80 series box today. Ordered from Land Cruiser Specialties but it ended up being a redhead rebuild.

Swap was not too tough. Pitman was a pain but came off with heat and the right puller. The pitman nut was worse. I thought I was going to snap the pry bar.

Steering is a bit off. Guessing I messed up mating the splines at the steering shaft. I was very careful to install the pitman in the same orientation. I guess I could be a spline off. Also assuming the box was centered when it arrived. It seems odd I would have to mess with the relay rod after this.

Buttoned back up for now and driving with no leaks. Im going to deal with the wheel and the valves tomorrow. Steering is tiiiiiight!

My torque wrench only goes up to 100ft lbs and the pitman arm nut spec is 130. I gave it my best ugaduga with a breaker bar and decided the best way to test was to paint mark and do some light wheeling. Seems good. I forgot how much I prefer wheeling with a manual for anything other than serious crawling.

There is so much negative feedback on the Weber carbs on Mud but mine performed perfectly. I went up and down a few 30% grade hills and did not have an issue. Snapped a great photo with Sopris in the background.

Did round 2 of fluid filming today. I decided not to do it on the exterior, just in all of the internal bits.

The stuff really creeps. I did the rocker panels a few weeks back and it started creeping up theough the door sill screws.

@fyffer Do I remember correctly you have a ram mount on the dash? Mine dash is in great shape other than a small tear forming. Im thinking about making a relief cut to try to stop it from growing. Then add a rubber grommet to run a usb power cable through.

Had some time this afternoon to drop in new speakers and kilmat the front doors. Went with some Alpines. I am still using the factory radio with a Bluetooth to FM receiver.

Results are not amazing, but way better than the blown factory speakers. They lost a fight to Pantera.

Well, replaced my Dash with a Cap. Even that started warping and cracking. Got a Carpet type cover from

DashCare by Seatz Manufacturing.

That I am pretty pleased with, Your Dash looks exceptional and I'll do all to keep it that way. Yes, 1 RAM on top for Garmin Overlander another next to Radio for swapping iPhone or Large size iPad both screw mounted.

Well last night we had the first breakdown. Pretty good for a 87 that has now been my daily for over a year.

Looks like a pretty clear carb issue. School me as I am a youngin still learning about carbs.

Truck fired right up then started a really choppy idle and died after a few seconds. I could never get it to fire up again. Cranked over fine. Spark was good, so has to be an air / fuel issue. On a visual inspection the carb was leaking fuel on the engine side right under the choke. I have a Weber 38/38 that came with the truck. Maybe a choke issue? I had Amber come grab me from work and left the truck here.

This morning she fired right up. Wanted to die but kept going if I gave it gas. After it warmed up a bit the truck was idling okay.

I am hoping to be able to drive home tonight. The real answer to this problem is to toss on the rebuilt and desmogged OEM carb I have on the shelf. I still need to get a few parts to make that setup work. I tracked down an unobtanium non US 2f carb hat. Still need to find the proper stud for that application and get a 62 air cleaner bottom and 80 series air cleaner top. I also need the fuel pump to carb hard line. Mine was cut short when the weber was installed.

Maybe float needle stuck open and overfilled the carb, then once it sat, enough evaporated for it to start and run. Did it belch some black smoke on startup? Check the dip stick and see if it looks overfilled and smells like gas.

Could be the case. I waited about 30 min thinking it was flooded out. There was definitely some gurgling from the carb.

How would that impact the dipstick level? Would extra fuel just leak down past the rings into the oil?
