I have been tracking down a tick and it looks like its coming from a leak in the cat converter. Is anyone running the manafre "test" pipe? What is the noise like on a 2f? Im assuming there is no measurable power gain removing the cat from the system so probably best to just pay the difference to replace it.

Reminder this truck is desmogged with headers (I believe SOR brand by visual inspection only). I dont want it to sound stupid. Just assessing my options. It already stinks (the exhaust).

I have the Man-a-Fre headers and exhaust if that's what you're asking for. Want a video?

if you remove the cat, it will "stink" more.
If replacing, since we are in Colorado, it will need to be carb compliant.
Personally i'd try to find a non carb cat and have a friend shit it to you.

I am more interested in the pros and cons of replacing the catalytic converter with their test pipe. Is that part of the full kit you are running?

I thought you'd never say that.

From when I had my 60 for sale here earlier this year, this is my CB in my CCoT center console. Mounting this CB and the power switch it took at least as much time and effort as installing the center console itself. To get the mic connector to fit I had to fab a right angle connector. I fabbed the plate to hold the CB.

Here's another couple shots of the CCoT center console. The lizard used to be sold at the City Market in Moab and had magnets in his little feet. For me it was a tradition to buy one every year I went to Cruise Moab when they were still sold there in the early 2000s. The lizard went to his new owner in Utah with the rig. 🦎

Not too much activity lately. Been tracking two small gremlins.

1. Brief voltage increase. Usually happens once the truck is warm and is at least 25 min into a drive cycle. Voltage meter pings up to 16. Verified with a multimeter at the battery. My best guess is a bad Voltage regulator on the alt. I have a spare on the shelf and need to do some electrical anyways.

2. I have a ticking. most pronounced when cold between 2 and 3k rpm. Not audible with the engine bay open, but audible inside the cab. I think I first noticed it after the clutch was replaced and could not previously hear it over the angry throw out bearing. This one is more of a mystery. Exhaust was my first bet. Replaced the o ring upstream of the cat as I had a small leak, but it looks like its actually from the cat itself. I also checked the manifold bolts. Glad I did as they were pretty loose. The manifold is double gasketed so that was an obvious culprit. Tightened them all to 30ftlbs. That little jerk in the back I had to do by feel. Ticking is still there. Might need a valve adjustment? It sounds like its coming from inside the dash but it is definitely mechanical in nature.

I agree on the voltage increase, and good call on checking manifold gaskets. Those suckers are so hard to get to, especially on a fully smogged 60. What's the history of valve adjustment on this rig? Typically they don't need to be messed with after initial break in adjustment with a new cam/lifters.

Glad I am on the right track with the voltage regulator. I have the cruiser trash fusible link replacement in the engine bay but its not hooked up to anything. This weekend I am going to complete the install and might as well swap out the battery, alt, and grounds at the same time.

I unfortunatley do not have a history of valve adjustments. It could also just be my OCD. The 60 is my first pushrod engine and I may just not be used to the valve train noise on the 2f. Nothing sounds off at idle, and the truck runs great. I figured I would be able to hear a valvetrain issue reving the engine, but I can only hear it inside the cab.

Just about to hit 20k miles since purchase and I am loving every minute of it. The secret is living in a valley where the speed limit is 55.

My 60 also makes a very mechanical sounding ticking noise I can only hear from inside the cabin. I tracked it down to a leaking EGR J-pipe. It goes away when I disconnect the EGR valve vacuum line, as well. Exhaust leaks can sound very much like metal on metal.
