Co worker is really making me consider these falkens. MT01 in the same size. They look great on his Tacoma.

Both the clutch master and slave are leaking. Nothing crazy, but they each lose a drop or so each drive cycle. Time to swap them before a diaphragm blows.

I have new AISN parts and a stainless hard line to slave hose from SOR.

First time swaping out all the clutch hydraulics! Seems to be just like a brake system but way simpler to swap and bleed

Do I need to bench bleed the master before it's installed or will it be fine bleeding on the truck?

Oh yeah. And in the back you can see significant parts creep for the upcoming axle job.

I don't think bench bleeding is needed, and/or you can sort of 'do it on the truck' with an old piece of brake line if needed. Most clutches bleed out very easily for the reason you mentioned.

Bled out super easy.

3hr job being lazy and scrolling on Mud waiting for paint to dry. There was some surface rust around the master I took the time to clean up. Grey primer blends in surprisingly good in the silver engine bay.

Clutch feels a little lighter, but maybe I just finally have it properly adjusted. No more shudder. I had a bit of a whirring noise that seems to have cleared up a bit. Set pedal height then push rod play via the FSM.

I also replaced the slave and soft line with the stainless SOR replacement. The hard line fitting there was super tight, but everything came apart okay.

And then a surprise. Look what I found on sitting in the inspection cover. It looks like it has been there for a long while.

Is this a clip that holds the clutch cover to the pressure plate?

I decided to go with the Falken MT based on price and some MUD research. I had a set of the Falken AT a long time ago on the FJC and never had any issues. The Falkens were $255 a tire compared to $320 for the Toyos. They are also 12lbs lighter per tire.

Another huge bonus with a freshly painted truck is the narrower tire not protruding out of the wheel well to throw rocks on the side. That's what the 315's on the 80 are for.

Falken 255/85/16 paired with Toyota 70 series steelies. They look great and ride smooth.

Initial impressions are great. Road noise is dramatically reduced compared to the old Toyos with low tread wear and scalloping on the front set. These ride pretty great for an MT. I need to go measure the old rims to see exactly what the weight savings was, but I swear I can feel a bit of extra pep. Could be the empty wallet placebo effect. Braking is definitely improved.

Unspung weight in overall engine and braking performance is very noticeable. Twelve pounds per wheel is huge. Mileage is majorly impacted too. $$$

This was definitely a big part of the consideration. Will be interested to see mpg numbers. Right now I average about 9......

I took some measurements this morning and came out with 9.1lbs per wheel in weight savings.

Old alloys are 28.1lbs and the steelies are 32. Tires were still the big factor. 64lbs for the toyos and 51lbs for the falkens. When I was researching I read a bit about the toyo mts having a higher ratio of the overall weight in the tread compared to other options.

So with the new combo there was overall weight reduction and a shifting of the rotational mass towards the hub.

I had a very minor issue with some rust presenting on the wheel wells. I know that is a constant battle with the 60s.

Amber and I were already planning to head out to Junction this weekend for a race and we coordinated dropping the 60 off.

Jason took the time to get everything repaired, and it looks great. We decided to go with color matched raptor on the wheel well arches. All completed as warranty work.

There have been some, well one, posts to the contrary recently, but I really think Jason is an honest guy running a good operation. If we decide to restore the beetle, he will be my go to guy for the body work.

Would love to see the liner he applied - can you post a pix? 60 series wheel wells take a beating, even on stock rigs.

Bender is back down in Junction for some work at Keith's Garage. Pretty much a laundry list of the "don't have time for that" items. I originally had the 80 scheduled this week but his preferred machine shop shut down so we had a last minute change of plans. ODO rolled over 170k heading out of Glenwood. Highway travel is much improved with the steering box adjustment and new tires. Actually hit 80 on the gps a few times when the hills and wind were in my favor.

Fire extinguisher mount from @Cruisertrash

The storage tray a nice touch. Fitment was a bit tight but I have about 1/2" of sound deadening under the carpet. Still fits. Just a bit of a squeeze to get the mat under.

Interesting on the FI edition I did this.
