Starting a build thread for the 250 Series. I was able to get her without any extra options or port installed crap, just the standard premium equipment. I added a dash-cam and skid plates at time of purchase from the parts dept. Paid MSRP. Demand high I was #2 on my dealers list.

It’s my daily driver so it will be a mild build. Beyond work duties it will see light family wheeling and towing of the Sasquatch. I kept my 80 for real wheeling.

As she looked fresh off the transport truck at the dealership.

Prior to purchase I had JT @Trapper50cal work up this as my inspiration. 70-series decal kit and some Evo Dakar Zero wheels

As soon as I could get on the schedule I had a full clear bra and UV film applied to all the windows and sunroof. The UV film did not add to the tint but cuts down most of the interior heat. I can drive with the sunroof shade open and not get cooked. And I can back up in the dark using my mirrors and still see. The film did add a reflective quality to the front side windows which does block people from seeing in a little. Added plus.

Removed the OEM plastic splash guard installed the Toyota skid plates. Two piece design. Radiator support back to the transfer case. I could have waited for the aftermarket but really liked the keyed bolt hold design of these as they are super easy to remove and reinstall solo. As I don’t plan to wheel this thing hard these should be OK.

Original plastic crap.

Factory tires were crap. Set of Toyo Open Country WLT1 snow tires installed for winter. LT275/70r18 one size larger than stock. Much heavier. Down 3 MPG on average.

Drug my feet with the dash cam but got it installed. I put it on the passenger side to keep it out of my line of sight. Pretty easy install. Just scary with all the plastic clips.

Ski season, need a ski box. Choose the low profile Yakima to give me a chance of fitting in ski area parking ramps. Had some Yakima load bars and feet laying around. Too tall for Vail. About 7-1/2’ currently.

I am not a huge fan of the color except with the decals. With those decals it looks really nice.

Spring is around the corner and I’ll need some all terrains for our planed Alaska trip. After long deliberation I just could not justify the cost of the Evo Dakar Zero wheels. $530 each plus freight and a 12 week wait. All the other bronze wheels I like, Rays and Bradley, are even more. Granted all these choices are also forged but overkill for my daily driver. Current wheel choices with the correct offset to keep the tire inside the wheel well are slim.

I ordered a set of Icon Recon SLX wheels in satin black. Caught an end of year sale. They are back ordered but should arrive next month. 18x9" +40mm offset

Which leads me to the new appearance plan. JT and I both agreed the first direction was too busy. I’m going to have the wheels powder coated to match the roof. And stick to the existing color pallet for the stripe package. Working with a local company and JT to do these as a one off. These are the same wheels Dissent used for their SEMA build. I got the powder color code from them.

I like the looks of this. BTW I noticed on RCI offroads site that they are having a tax season sale and they have a few options for LC250 sliders. I am going to order me a set for my 250 once I decide on 5 or 20 degree angle.

Holy moly, where are you getting a quote for $530/wheel?! Speaking as a double Evo owner...

I’ve always loved those wheels. John, where are you buying yours?

I purchased the 17's on the 80 from Main Line back in '19. They were $1,927.46 shipped. However, they shipped the "non-race" version that is more fitted to F150's. Was a 3 or so month wait for them to get the "race" version that the 80's need.

It wasn't a bad situation, but when I wanted to replicate them to the Tacoma and saw their prices I went direct to Evo Corse. Shipped direct from Italy they were 1,955 EUR on Feb 13th '24. At todays exchange rate it looks like that would be $2,029.93.

One thing to note that I have learned through all of this is the "race" version has the steel inserts like the early 80's. I originally had too small of diameter lug nuts on the 80 and after 4+ tire changes I started to push the centers through. Email to Evo and a week or so later I had replacement inserts for all 5 wheels for like $50. Oh, and both sets are of 5 rims.

I get the convenience fee of potentially not having to wait, but damn. Everyone at Evo that I worked with was amazing. I even if the price difference was not there, or so high I would recommend going to them direct.

@Corbet not sure what size tire the 250's are capable of, have the 255/85/16 Gold spare and a super worn 315/70/17 Grey spare if you want to size them up in person.

I just put on a set of these on my Tundra. They're heavy, but not much more than OEM. I paid $110 each, free shipping from Icon's website. :grinpimp:
