Thanks everyone for your work to put this trip together. Bummed that it's not happening, but I do understand and agree why. Looking forward to meeting you all on another run or this run in the future.

So we did this run in Oct -19, with FANTASTIC fall colors, but nights were cold as no tomorrow.
Could this be a timeframe to consider, if rescheduling ???

My calendar just pinged me reminding me this trip was supposed to be this weekend, sucks it didn't work out!

What is the update on conditions down south? Are things getting any better for the folks near the NM border? Looks extremely dry from every article I can find.

Definitely interested in the October option.

Must’ve just missed you in Chama, Corbet. I was there with the family Thursday-Saturday visiting friends.
Then we drove to Lake City climbed Handies Peak for the first family annual 14er of 2022. (Meant to do Handies last year during the Creede run but the rains kept us away so we did Sherman instead.)

Corbet, congrats on dragging the whole fam up there. I think my favorite hikes in my life are when my kids are with me.

You should ping me if you roll through Creede btw.

Mind you, my daughter is setting up right now in South Colony to hit the Needle tomorrow.

Also, we've done Handies a few times now at Sunset. Come down in the dark. Seems ideal for that.

DSNGRR was forced to cancel all trains this week due to NFS orders. They are hoping to run maxed out double headers this coming weekend. We don't see those often.

Maybe we just pick a day and go to the Colorado RR museum and get our fix until the trip gets rescheduled?

All NM NF and SP campgrounds are closed, d/t fire risks. My experience for a Cimmaron traii over Valle Vidal to Costilla went out the door with Gate closures. Had to take an immediiate coursee of action.

There is actually a warning for “Heavy and torrential downpours”

The 10 day has significant rainfall every day except Monday. If that holds, train will be running again soon.

I drove through parts of the Carson NF yesterday. All roads are still blocked and marked closed. We have been getting rain here in Durango since Friday night. It was raining pretty hard in Taos yesterday. We drove through light rain on and off between Sante Fe and Durango yesterday. No signs of any flooding. Ground is so dry it’s like a big sponge so far. It’s finally a step in the right direction for the SW.

That is not my family pic above but we have also done Handies as a family. It’s a pretty easy 14er. No scrambling. Just 2400’ of hiking up a trail.
