Exhaust parts picked up today. “tungsten” colored Cerakote applied. Reused the exhaust manifolds, heat shields are new.

Is cerakote rated to withstand that kind of temperature? Naturally aspirated headers get to around 1000 degrees. Turbo should get hotter. Ive never used cerakote so Im just curious because that looks really nice.

I wanted to do one final follow up on the Cometic Head Gasket I used. The OEM HG measured 0.060" before compression. The published specs on the Cometic HG's are a compressed spec. I had 0.027" milled of the deck and head total and after going with a 0.066" new Cometic the timing gear slid on just perfect. My engine builder had some concerns here and was super happy with our results.

So the the assumption of 0.020" compression of the OEM HG was the perfect educated guess to use when selecting an oversized HG after machine work.

We pulled the valve cover off the old engine to look at the timing chain for fun. It was worked. We cold rotate the crank 2-3° before the cam gear would move. Super stretched after 252K

I assume the turbo is on it? Or are you going to drive it first non turbo to make sure bugs are worked out and it runs like it's supposed to and "break it in"? Did you end up buying a AFR gauge for it for the initial iteration?

Thanks for following up on this one. If/when I rebuild I'm going to have to go cometic as some unknown amount was milled off the head when the HG was done by robbie a number of years back. And if a bit needs taken off the block...this gives me at least a good place to start!

Break in first. Oil change at 500 miles to remove the initial oil. Then it will come down to schedule and my ability to show horn it into my garage or fight the weather.
