So with the Wits’ End turbo kit nearing its ship date it’s time to start building an engine. I picked up a parts truck over the weekend from a friend who bought it for the body. He rolled his and plans to rebuild it with the donor sheet metal. I arranged to receive the engine/trans/t-case. I didn’t want my truck torn down for a couple months. So the plan is to build this engine and simply swap it into my truck. Do some break in miles and then bolt on the turbo.

He will split the head off and see what we are dealing with later this week.

Plan is a pretty stock refresh with the addition of forged pistons and probably ARP head studs.

I need to get started researching what pistons I want.

Also plan to do low range gears while it’s all apart.

Sweet! Forged pistons, good idea. Sounds like a fun project. Subscribed

I just bought an engine off of Calvin with the intent of doing the same thing.

I am planning to build it myself over time and see how this turbo kit pans out for first buyers. Glad to see soemone local pulled the trigger!

Does the kit allow for use of both stock cats?

That's awesome. Pretty exciting to think about the end result.

Wish I would've kept that.
Yes it uses stock y pipe, so it basically replaces just the manifolds.

I couldn't tell from the pictures on the website and was certainly not going to read that entire thread. Whew!

OEM cast manifolds stay. J pipe mounts to them and holds turbo. The only non-bolt in part of the install is mating the exhaust off the turbo to your remaining exhaust. If still OEM you cut right before the cats and weld on.

That's awesome. Pretty exciting to think about the end result.

He posted the following dyno results:
1. Stock 120AWHP/170 FT LBS
2. Supercharger 155 AWHP/238 FT LBS
3. Wits End 214 AWHP/277 FT LBS

So about 100 hp/100 ft-lb increase.

Turbos are fun :D

If you are changing the pistons, have you given any thought to boring out the cylinders? Isn't that what PowderPig does when he rebuilds the 1FZ to a larger displacement?

Is it ok if I just put this here? Long live the 1FZ!
