Well, you might be right @Corbet . The only one that I could get was painted brown. It didn’t look great in the photos but I bought it anyway. When I got it, I realized it was just a gray one that had been painted with shitty paint and it was pretty gross. I ended up having to paint it. I reached out to @shellb and asked him what color paint to use. It turned out great, perfect match!

This is the paint…SEM 15723 Monterey Color Coat

It’s nearly perfect match.

Looks awesome Scott, your passengers will enjoy that!

Replaced my steering rack guide bushing to try to get rid of the mysterious clunk. Seems to have helped, but the one that was in there was the old style cap with the new style slidy thing instead of the roller one, so makes me think somebody replaced this rack or messed with it before me.

So I thought I'd start a thread for little odd-ball projects that don't really need a whole thread. A place where we can just throw out a couple lines about whatever it was that we did to our rigs and maybe a picture or two.
This is been such a great threat and I never thought about how it all started. Today I happened to notice who started it.

:risingsun ... is how I feel after two of my eight roof rack feet breaking after 10 days on the trail in Moab last week and with only seven days to go before taking the truck down to the Baja 1000 a certain unnamed member - unnamed so they don’t get deluged with requests for assistance - reattached the broken two and reinforced all the feet for me last night. Last night I painted, and today it’s all bolted and ready to go.

This is an approximately 14-year-old Gobi Rack prototype. I don’t mind loading it with 4 Jerry’s, recovery boards, and other miscellaneous crap. Corrugations take their toll. The failure point has been the vertex of angle iron welded to the tubes to which the mounts bolt. Could have been gusseted. Tapered angle probably would have distributed forces better.

We also welded on an electrical grounding bolt that is going to make my electronics work better. Next year I hope to take the rack off for mods for lights and will further reinforce the mount undersides.

rebuilt the center section of the rear bumper and removed the rear hitch on the first gen 4runner yesterday. Looks much better.

Was getting several Evap codes and found my filter for the fuel tanks was heavly crudded in my dual tank setup. LRA updated thie instructions to use a better filter. The old one popped off and was lying there.

Changed Filter and Charcoal filter (Not Canister). Will take some time to see if fully fixed. Not seing any new codes and over time the permenant codes being cleared

Haven’t done anything, yet.
I did get my new wheels in for the cruiser though.
They got the GI Joe kung fu bead grip.

I wish they made that wheel with a +40 offset. Maybe they will by the new year.

Replaced all the tie rod ends. I broke one on my recent trip to Utah. They were only a year old, but were some off brand version. Lesson learned: Always get your tie rod ends from Marlin and not from Amazon.
Did some adjustments and tightened some suspension components.
Cleaned her out from all the dirt and Utah dust.
Cleaned the air filter.
Put the cover on, because she will probably spend most of the winter under the cover with a battery tender hooked up.
Missing Summer. :cautious:

Pulled an engine on this (not my) rig. Neighbor asked me to fix her inherited 60. It was in rough shape when it was parked 6 years ago. HG issues and leaks oil everywhere, vacuum leaks galore, and a chewed up wire harness, to name a few. Plus a few decades of some questionable shop work. Barely ran. Definitely time to start with a clean slate.

Finished a few wrenching chores over the past few weekends. New Aisin water pump, thermostat, coolant hoses, and drivebelts on the 84 FJ60. I'm pretty sure all the parts replaced were original. Finish the mini-truck power steering on the 78 FJ40 (so nice!). Last item was installed a new thermostat for the wife's GX470. Did this to fix a small leak from the t-stat housing. Likely I will be limited to any more wrenching time until spring...my detached garage is not heated and I'm a wimp.

@IoN6 Still no heat and powering things off extension cords, but it beats working in the snow! Felt a little pain seeing fluids drop on that new concrete.

Nearly slid off the road today with the garbage OEM rubber.

Yeah, they've been pretty sketchy with all the snow we've had this week here in Evergreen. I'd like to get "my money's worth" on the Yokohamas and then go back to the Duratracs I liked so much when I had a set on my 60. We'll see if I can make it through the winter on the craptastic Yokohamas.

These are way better than my Duratracs ever were in the snow but apples to oranges comparison. Just got home. And on the section of road I could not stop on this morning going down. I came to a complete stop going up. Then continued up without any noticable tire slippage. They stuck like velcro. Granted they have to come off in the spring.
