1977 FJ40 Colonel Mustard

Engine bucking and surging started in moab, just once and it was fine for a few more months. The last few weeks it has gotten progressively worse and almost every time I drove it whether it was hot or cool temps. That told me it wasn't vapor lock. The carb bowl wasn't empty when i jumped out and looked but it was lower than the line. That threw me off a bit. I pulled the filter and tried to blow through it and seemed weak. Decided to look in the tank and you could see fine particles. I have the tank soaking in vinegar water solution that has dislodged a lot. I’ll do a thorough cleaning, or buy a new tank if it comes to that. I also plan to incorporate the old style glass bowl fuel filter to see if i solved the problem or it's persisting after cleaning the tank.

Wes, I had really good luck restoring a rusty fuel tank 7 years ago. I used electrolysis to remove the rust inside and then coated the inside with the por15 kit. Still looks great inside the tank!

A couple rounds of vinegar solution and rinsing. Can see the red rust flakes. Then blew out and vacuumed any particles left that wouldn’t blow out. Runs good again.
