What I was thinking about @Cruisertrash was "Time Won't Let Me" that the Plimsouls covered, which was originally done by the The Outsiders in the 1960s. They were a Cleveland band like the Dead Boys. It's a circuitous reference but that's just how my brain works making links. The Smithereens and Iggy Pop also covered it.

@DaveInDenver You really went there with the Hoff! haha

In light of the punk/new wave post yesterday, here's a pair - original by The Nerves, cover by Ms. Harry & Company. I love both.

"Raven"
The Living Pins
Freaky Little Monster Children (2021, EP)

I first became aware of Pan Peltz in a band she was in back in the 90s called Ursa Major. Their only album (I think) called Ursa Major from 1997 that they gave out or maybe were just selling really cheap (memory is foggy) at their show at SXSW. I have mine still. A very low budget situation, no insert, no backpage even in the case. Just a sticker with the song list and credits on the jewel case and the CD itself. I haven't found much that's made it to the Interwebz from them. In fact music lovers will quickly see this video is not even remotely close to synced to the music but it's the only one I could find.

They were and still are an Austin band. Glad everyone's still doing the rock and-or roll. The Living Pins is Pam and Carrie Clark who was in a band called Sixteen Deluxe back in the 1990s and found some minor success touring as the opener for The Jesus and Mary Chain and getting some play on MTV (the video for "Idea" was in MTV rotation). They ended up going long enough to release at least three full lengths (one major label even for Warner) before breaking up. They reunited about 10 years ago but seems only to do live shows.

Everyone knows the Byrds' version from 1968. And from Easy Rider, yeah duh.

Carole King and her ex-husband Gerry Goffin actually wrote the song. I'm partial to the Byrds' version from The Notorious Byrd Brothers, which is better than The City's (Carole King) original 1968 version.

Although this version is interesting, I thought.

Didn't know any of this - one of my favorite Byrds tunes.

I always think of mom when I hear The Seekers, especially this song.

It was recorded nearly on this day in 1964 at Abbey Road (actually November 4) which was just a week after the Beatles had finished recording Beatles For Sale. True story. Of course The Beatles got 3 months in the studio, The Seekers for a single, just one day...

But, yeah, I do really like Judith Durham's voice. The band is actually Aussie.

I'm getting on a plane right now, but this tune is stuck in my head

Just listened to my mono lp version of this earlier this week. Sounded amazing with Jack Cassady's bass sounding particularly incredible. My favorite Airplane album.

Been trying yet again to get into Nikki Sudden/Epic Soundtracks stuff. I want to like it, but if I'm being frank I always find it pretty mediocre. Here's an alright tune by Sudden's band The Jacobites. Where else should I go with these guys? What am I missing?

Also back on a kick with Thee Milkshakes - 80s British mod punk (with Billy Childish, later of The Headcoats).

Stray Grass is a local (to GJ) band. Very excited to draw live shows of 2021 to a close seeing them and another GJ band, Still House String Band, tomorrow evening at the Mesa Theater.

Check 'em out if you get the chance in 2022. Or better yet, join me next year at the Palisade Brewgrass Festival and see both and many more.

The USAF Band flash mob holiday concerts that surprised visitors to the Smithsonian Air & Space Museums in 2013 and 2014.

Merry Christmas!
