Two were stubborn. Mr. Sawzall fixed that problem quickly.

What is everyone doing for rack removal when the internal nuts break? Drill out the holes for a nutsert?
@nakman has seen this a lot I bet!

The worst kind of discovery the other day while I was changing gear oil after my break in period for my new gears... that the shop I had install my front differential new gears via 3rd member swap.. yes.. a 3rd member swap was all it was (I lacked a lift/shop to do this work properly unfortunately), neglected to connect my front differential breather, actuator breather, bent/broke the bracket to hold these to my front differential, and never bolted on the connector harness back to the front axle either.

I have had ZERO leaks on my 223k+ 4runner and now.. I have gear oil all over the bottom of my entire rig. I'm talking, yes, literally zero fluid leaks *knock on wood* due to all the PM I've kept up with so far. I am PISSED about this and the shop's shoddy work here.

Not least to say that they also neglected to properly torque my lower control arm balljoint after this work too (why they removed that, I have zero clue as well).

To ensure others are safe as well, and to proceed with caution, I must name and shame. This was Nichol's Auto in Wheat Ridge off of Kipling. IF you do get work done there, please double-check their work. Either your life and safety (ball joint nut not even tight) or very expensive destruction of equipment that you paid a lot for could happen (brand new differential gears)

Gear oil everywhere now:

Yet another busy weekend of truck prep for the LX and Lisa’s 4Runner. Got my dual batteries going. All the aux stuff hooked up and going too. Need to clean up the access wiring more, but that will happen between CM and Rubithon. That’s when @MoFunna4l2unna and I will get the other battery box mounted and he will be building me an air filter box. I will finally get my snorkel hooked up. Most likely will be building some sort of shelf to, for all the “stuff”.
On Lisa’s truck I went to change the oil and drain and fill the transmission. I noticed the radiator was leaking a little at the seam where the tank meets the fins. Swapped it out changed the fluids, good to go.

Dyno day.
I’m pretty happy with the numbers. 242whp, and 260lbsft of torque.
Base was 206 and 230.
He’s guessing I’m around 330 to 340 engine hp.

Thats the same dyno shop i used. I think it has a different owner now though and a different name. My 5.3 had a black bear tune when I tested it. I thought seeing my rig on the dyno was really fun to watch.

Half-ish way through the top end re-seal, replaced the knock sensor wiring harness and got the intake manifold put back on with new gaskets. It looks like it was slowly leaking coolant into the center of the engine, so that would explain the intermittent drip down over the top of the bell housing.

I keep finding new hoses that need to be replaced, but part of the point here is to do as many of them as I can.

Pulled the valve covers off and found one bolt that was shorter than the other 15... it doesn't look broken or anything but maybe will replace all those bolts anyway.

This is the deepest I've ever been into an engine, so far the only thing that scares me is the thought that either I dropped something into the head and didn't notice somehow, or that I did the fuel rail connection wrong and it will leak fuel.

Got this job all finished and the truck started and runs again! And didn't catch on fire (yet). That crosses quite a number of things off my list (leaky valve covers and intake gaskets, all old coolant and most vacuum hoses, brake booster check valve, bad coil pack), next up will be the rear axle work I think.

I also put in some wire harness holder brackets (see picture) I got from this Third Gen Regen guy (https://thirdgenregen.wixsite.com/thirdgenregen/profile/thirdgenregen/profile) as a solution to replace the crumbling plastic wire looms, seems like it will work pretty well at first glance.

After years of looking, off and on. I finally found a good set of leather seats for Lisa’s 4Runner. I did have to swap the frame as the wiring was a little different from a 2000 vs our 98. Ether way two new to us seats that are way more comfortable.
Anyone want/need some parts from the old seats or frames?

From the outside, anyway. Still red dust reminders inside, I'll bet, but that's just a cool sign of great times had. (y)
We use the air compressor to blow most of it out then vacuum the rest. I like to think I got all of it but I’m sure there’s still bits in the cracks lol

Did the responsible thing and got the right equipment to keep me off a ladder. Did the irresponsible thing and towed it home in an 80 without a brake controller.
