finally cleared up the last of the codes on the 80…p0325
p0171, p0130 and p0133 were fixed with new o2 sensors and brand new oem $$$ exhaust system y pipe all the way back…
p0325 i kept putting off cause the front knock sensor was really hard to get to for me..
turned out when I finally got in there the one little wire that plugs into the front sensor had snapped off which was suckier to fix than the actual sensor..
to me this was harder access wise than the phh..
so from the top i unbolted the dip stick and a ground wire that goes to the intake plenum
then took the ds tire off and the rubber flaps in the well..
most of the work was done hunkered inside the wheel well except unplugging a couple sensors from the top to get some slack in the harness
btw don’t ever let big o on 64th and Indiana rotate your tires, not sure how over 76 ft/lbs the lug nuts were torqued, but i broke my 5lb blue point sledge and finally got them off jumping up and down on a 3 foot cheater bar… serious not even hyperbole thought for sure the studs were going to snap for sure…
anyways…
i had already bought the knock sensors and a little jumper wire toyota makes with the right connector on one end, this isn’t for this truck but it’s the easiest way to get the wire with the right connector for the sensor end…
the hardest part was to get enough of the harness disconnected from 4 different sensors to be able to snake it down and out by the back of the wheel well to be able to solder a section of the toyota jumper thing into the truck harness..
i used a 27mm with a swivel and an 18” extension snaked through the wheel well to pull the knock sensor out and new one back in…
then soldered in the new wire stub and connector, then tape and two layers of shrink wrap. should be a good solid repair for a long time…
snaking it all back into its hole and reconnecting those four plugs was particularly arm scratching lol
here’s the pic of the part numbers and stuff
not sure where i found that harness part i am sure mud, but it was a long time ago..i have been putting this repair off for a long time..
finally got tired of the computer retarding the timing protecting itself and making this truck more underpowered than normal.
glad to have it code free and running right again with new exhaust front to back
you can see the old one with its connector still plugged in and the wire snapped off…
what a royal PITA
i had got some quotes on people doing this for me and that was just a laughable nonsense nonstarter so finally bit the bullet and did it..
hopefully this narrative helps the next poor sucker with a p0325 next time
should’ve taken more pictures for helping anyone who might have to do this but honestly was one of the most frustrating jobs I remember doing..
