Aye, mine is still in a decent shape, but there's a crack that's rising up, though not enough for me to justify the restoration fee, so I opted in for the Rust Farmers version because I'm so deep in the sunk cost fallacies that I refuse to settle.

I keep seeing the restored Radio on eBay, but I can't justify buying it for $1900. There's a part of me that wants to buy a used OEM, one of those RetroRadios, transplant the electronics, and make it work with Bluetooth, but that feels like a long way off. Nowhere near the horizon right now. I might eventually settle for an 80s-looking DIN and live with it. Someone asked if I'm restoring the rig, and I can finally say, yeah, it sure looks that way, though I've deviated from a true restoration with the fixins.

You gonna post a picture of the shift boot in your thread to motivate me?

I did not enjoy taking the shroud off. I’m definitely (edit: not) going to find someone to cut it in half. Not worth the hassle, I'll just curse my way through the re-mount.

Slapped on some POR-15 engine paint since I have it pulled out. Shiny.

My radio is in good shape other than the knobs that crumbled apart. It actually has Bluetooth through the factory radio using one of those Bluetooth to FM radio devices. I have no idea where it is, but assume its hidden in the dash. There are no fuse taps that I have found for it. Kinda cool way to keep the OEM look.

I need a backup cam though. The window tint is so dark I have to roll down the driver's window and stick my head out when reversing at night.

Speaking of tinting, ceramic coating? I'm not much for tinting, though I understand it'll help keep the cabin cool.

I've had a couple of cars with some pretty heavy aftermarket tint. I never found those cars to be any cooler inside when parked in the sun. I know the stuff is marketed as reflecting IR radiation but from a seat of the pants level of testing, I don't think it makes any difference. Maybe there are some special films out there but the level of visible darkness has nothing to do with the actual IR reflection. Oh, and dark film really sucks at night.

Well, the new HD fan clutch is in.

And we’re running it with the A/C on for 30 minutes to an hour so far, needle moves on up ever so slightly. Time to get a thermal or mechanical gauge.

Me thinks the condenser isn’t displacing enough heat. Any wild guesses?

Personally, I'm a fan of not having the Tint; it's the equivalent of the open kitchen feel.

Mine still gets pretty hot. I always put the windshield sunshade up. You have the benefit of the tan interior. The Grey 60 interior gets way hotter than the tan 80 does in the summer.

I wanted to order some of these but shipping is outrageous from AUS.

My wife is pretty handy eith a sewing machine, and we were talking about just getting some bulk material to make them ourselves.

What I REALLY want to keep things cool is a sun visor. I think they look good on old trucks. Shipping is also the hold up on that. So expensive. I thought they were installed with rivets, but some models simply clamp to the gutters.

A few companies make them solid where you can have them paint matched to the truck.

I woke up this morning realizing that at some point, I'm going to go too far restoring, and I won't drive it because the parts are becoming rare as unobtanium to source for me to risk taking it out.

Anyway, since I took the steering column off, I might as well repaint it to match the other parts that I've already painted. Those SHARPIE Oil-Based Paint Markers came in handy for the emboss.

On a related note, if only the gosh-darned State of California, I mean Colorado Legislature (since they seem to be attached at the hip) would get it right. Why is a 1980s emissions tech under the same scrutiny as a modern vehicle when there are only a handful of those on the road, and only on occasion? I'm not the problem; I don't hurt anyone; I want to exist.

I blacked out there for a moment.

agreed!
once its 25, they shouldn't need to be tested anymore.
the number of newer cars on the roads far outweighs the number of older vehicles on the road.

Bought the Rust Farmers bezel since the OE has a noticeable crack. It’s really well-made, but now I’m facing a color mismatch. I guess I’m repainting the whole thing.

Old, beat up and new with color correction to match the rest of the interior parts I’ve already painted. Also, Seth from the Rust Farmers takes the time to write a personal note, talk about customer service.

I was thinking about the 105 upgrade but with 33's and mostly touring use I did not see the benefit of the upgraded sector shaft. Did you go to a 105 series box as well? Is that just an 80 box with the heavy duty shaft or is it an improvement on the 80 box?

I am probably just going to pony up for a reman box for the 60. I might upgrade to the 80 box since there is no real cost difference between the two options.
