I’m not sure if I like it or hate all the blackness that takes over the cabin, maybe I’ll swap the top with a brown leather to see if I can grow to like it, but hey, cup holders—precious, cup holders.

Hell yeah, I'm here to find all the goodies for you :)
Can you find me an OEM steering gearbox for less than a mortgage payment?

Let me know what you think. I have one I have not installed yet.

@KC Masterpiece, how hard is that steering gearbox replacement?

I have not done it yet. They are expensive and I am still trying to figure out my options. Right now I only need to add fluid every few weeks driving daily, but I still need to get one ordered.

Seems pretty straightforward as long as you have a Pittman arm puller.

Good news is that the oil on the birfs I thought was from the front diff is actually ATF from the PS gearbox. Gearbox replacement is needed but an axle rebuild can hold off for a bit.

The steering box isn’t difficult to remove and replace, but make sure to get the right puller for the Pitman arm. A simple jaw style puller probably won’t do it, the type that is essentially a cast steel shell partially surrounding the arm with a very large press bolt is the hot ticket. And once loaded by the puller a small sledge hammer works well for percussive persuasion on the part of the arm that is attached to the box shaft. Vibration is your friend.

This is the one I finally had success with. It was a breeze once I had this in hand.

I am planning to get the right puller and throw a 24v impact on mine. Fingers crossed its not that sized. Already hit it with some PB blaster a few times.

Preparing for the body and paint work. Meanwhile, I might also have a hoarding problem, I don’t know.

The temp needle at idle with A/C running started to rise higher, so there’s that rabbit hole.

I have thoughts for others to scrutinize. I remembered that this motor runs hotter. I have the red fan clutch and need to swap to the black one. I'm also going to explore an electric fan for the condenser. I’m not even sure if the aftermarket condenser is good.

Please give me your advice, let me run with them!

I shouldn’t leave home, ever. Went to visit a friendly, Nomad Cruisers (thanks, Tim for the pointer) in Cripple Creek, came back home with a whole panel set. At least the quarter panel dilemma is solved.

Fine tuning, bought myself a better parallel flow and heavy duty fan clutch. Brackets on the way, will be dismantling then front to redo it all, which means I’m not running it for a while.

Meanwhile, I look forward to the day I install this on my rig. Looks terrific. It's not a pop, and it's not a full restoration at $1,200. It's what all FJ60 owners crave: a reasonably priced replacement that's true to form.

Is that the rust farmers one? Are they shipping them out now?

That is awesome to see. I have not been keeping up with the mud thread. My Dash has a very small crack developing. I am still a ways out from spending that on a replacement, but glad to see we have better options than the cap covers.

My crack is so small I am considering covering it with a RAM mount. Still not sure what the plan is with replacing my factory radio. Its nice... but for the price they go for on ebay these days I could sell it and redo the entire audio system.

Just installed that new shift boot this morning!
