They'll sell a ton of 'em for sure. At 325 hp and 450+ tq with 27mpg, it is compelling for everyone that was in the 4runner category. I have to believe they have a plan that is more robust than just shifting old 4runner customers to the cruiser though.
A couple of years ago they were close to disclosing info about the next gen 4runner, and then the bronco came out and next thing you know they stated they were moving the 4runner development back to rethink that design. I can't help but feel like this is what they were going to release as the new 4runner, and then they had to scramble to come up with something outside the box instead but didn't want to scrap the work that had been done up to then.
I'll be curious to see where the 4runner is placed in the lineup now, how it differentiates from this, and if they are trying to do something retro there as well. The only thing that makes sense for me as to why they would call the gx sibling a land cruiser here (as they do everywhere else via prado) instead of the 4runner that it has been historically, is that they need to do something radical with the 4runner instead but don't want to lose the customers that love the 4runner now.
