That was an EXCELLENT presentation! While I think the GX variant looks a bit better, I'm really excited for this new LC especially with the hybrid powertrain which should be a huge boost to range. That's honestly my biggest disappointment with Land Cruisers to date - the range while off road sucks!

More photos from the Toyota website. They have disabled downloading so I screenshotted these too.

A stretched FJ cruiser :dunno:. Not sure where this fits in Toyotas portfolio for North America? It's going to have the same engine and off-road tech as the new 4Runner at around the same size. If there was a two door variant with a 6 speed manual that would be awesome but it looks like it's only 4 door auto.

To me, this looks like it's going to be a high priced (when equipped with all options) SUV with a bunch of electronic off-roading do-dads and wizardry and not the back to basics hard core 4wheeler some of us were hoping for. This isn't going to compete with the Wrangler or Bronco which is disappointing.

But what do I know?

A stretched fj cruiser is a 60 series. Stock, this thing will likely compete against both of the above mentioned well, but run for 300k, so I think it will pull a lot of sales from them personally. Although I do wish the top would come off.

The base model looks pretty SR5-ish. Built on the same platform as Tacoma with the same hybrid drivetrain. With a starting MSRP of $56K I’m not sure why I would buy it over the Tacoma when the TrailHunter is likely to be $56K with all the goodies.

Tacoma pricing not released yet so we’ll see. my dealer is hinting at the low 50’s for TrailHunter

Wasn't part of the problem with the Cruiser that it had inched too far upscale, lost it's basic utility and cost too much? Why is Toyota so dense sometimes?

But I'm not sure what they're thinking with the Taco and Tundra either. Just make a reliable truck at a price normal people can afford and we'll take care of making it what we want. But then again they sell the crap out of them so it's clearly me who's out of step.

Not impressed with this 4 runner version of the LC. Just not. Maybe it will grow on me?

I like the look, love the white roof, just don’t understand the economics yet. Maybe Tacoma pricing once released will clear things up. But right now I can’t see paying a $15K premium for a LC badge.

It used to be the LC came on a heavier duty chassis and drivetrain. The new Tacoma is said to have the 9.5” rear diff. So if the platform and drivetrain are the same why go LC other than a strong preference to SUV over pickup. Or the LC shorter wheelbase it will certainly be more maneuverable on the trail.

If they are basically the same price them the same. Then the 4R fails I suppose. It will be interesting to see the new 4R now and how it fits into the big picture.

I watched the video and liked what I saw and read online afterwards

Curious about the Hybrid. Others with the same powerplant get 28-30 MPG. Like to know more about towing power and the specs on both drivetrains

I will keep an eye on this and the Lexus counterpart.

I like it...it's apparent that they took styling cues from the enthusiast aftermarket (and from Polestar which I think is very smart) The grill emblem, round headlights and white top are all throwback. Hopefully the seats are wider than the 4R...

I like it a lot! I don’t know if I’ll get one yet but I’m hopeful of getting one in a couple years.

I like the poverty pack round headlight cloth interior version. I think we will get in line for one when we get to check it out in person.

They'll sell a ton of 'em for sure. At 325 hp and 450+ tq with 27mpg, it is compelling for everyone that was in the 4runner category. I have to believe they have a plan that is more robust than just shifting old 4runner customers to the cruiser though.

A couple of years ago they were close to disclosing info about the next gen 4runner, and then the bronco came out and next thing you know they stated they were moving the 4runner development back to rethink that design. I can't help but feel like this is what they were going to release as the new 4runner, and then they had to scramble to come up with something outside the box instead but didn't want to scrap the work that had been done up to then.

I'll be curious to see where the 4runner is placed in the lineup now, how it differentiates from this, and if they are trying to do something retro there as well. The only thing that makes sense for me as to why they would call the gx sibling a land cruiser here (as they do everywhere else via prado) instead of the 4runner that it has been historically, is that they need to do something radical with the 4runner instead but don't want to lose the customers that love the 4runner now.
