Ha, just wait. Pedestrian-safe "Smarbar" bull bars are a thing now. Toyota's front running it in the U.S. and those silly rubber snubbers on ARBs don't count I guess.

Just saw this thread (I don't subscribe to email alerts on chit-chat). I am planning on buying one of these 250s when they become available, then sell my 1987 FJ60 and probably my '71 FJ40 to cull the herd. I'll keep the FJ45 and finish the '76 FJ40 that I have had since 1982. I tried to get on the wait list at Stevinson but Mallory (Curt Roger's* chosen successor) told me on the phone that she was told to stop taking wait list names until they see what they are allocated.

I really, really like the amenities my wife's 2021 RAV4 has, and as hard core as I am on old school Land Cruisers (I have been driving my '71 FJ40 frequently lately in the snowy weather since it's already rusty so who cares about a little mag chloride), it's cold, loud, grumpy and the left turn signal is out of blinker fluid. At least in my 60 I can hear the radio. Just so you know, in my loud 40, I can still hear the CB, but the little speaker in my handheld FRS is unintelligible.

*Curt Rogers attended a Rising Sun Rally around the early 2010s, and when we chit chatted as I took his entrance fee, he gave me his business card, he was a sales guy at Stevinson for like, a gazillion years. He drives (to this day) a 1987 4Runner he bought new there. I bought a new 2015 RAV4 for my wife from him, and subsequently a new 2021 RAV4 from him. He retired last year, but when I heard about the 250 series I called him at home and asked "Is Stevinson still a good place to buy a new car since they got sold?" (His answer, yes) And I asked him who was his chosen successor, he told me Mallory.

@Rzeppa

Jeff, don’t know if you read through the entire thread but I was told a couple weeks ago that allocations will be based on 4Runner sales. So all dealers in CO should see a good number of 250’s. I put my name on our local list right after the 250 was announced so I expect to get one right out of the gate if I decide I want the First Edition trim level. Otherwise I’ll have to wait until the lower levels hit production. I suspect the 1958 trim might be the toughest to acquire quickly as I think it’s price will make it the hot seller with many enthusiasts looking to buy a new Cruiser perhaps for the first time.

Corbet, I was just sharing what salesperson Mallory told me on the phone a couple weeks ago. I suspect that may just be her boss at Stevinson telling her not to take any more names. I figure I should get on the wait list at other dealers if they'll let me.

And you're right, this would be a first for me. Even though I have owned Land Cruisers for over 41 years, the "newest" one I have ever had was 3 years old, my 1997 HZJ75 when I bought it in 2000. Next newest was my original 1976 FJ40 I bought in 1982, so that was 6 years old.

GT3 has the engine in the back
Oh, so the gt3 hits pedestrians going backwards. Got it! :) Of course, if it’s an early 930, all it would take is an untimely throttle lift and my joke isn’t that far off.
My understanding is that pedestrian impact laws have nothing to do with engine placement, (see Toyota 86 hood line) it’s height of hood and softness of the hood so that when you clip a dude wearing all black on colfax, that he gets pushed rather than flipped 30’ spinning up into the air and land on their head. So maybe Toyota is going at percentage of fleet that’s pedestrian friendly. So the Supra and 86 can be low if the high selling SUV’s can be bricks. Dunno.

The height of the hood isn't the issue, it's that there needs to be a crush zone for the pedestrian's head. With no engine the front can be lower because there is still crush area underneath.

Interesting and a crush zone makes sense. I still have the same question then. How can a Toyota 86 comply with new standards (or an Miata) and a new tundra needs to be a 5’ tall wall of grill? Maybe the 86 being a flat 4 there’s x” of space between metal and engine? Miata and Supra, not so much.

Some out of market photos are appearing overseas with colors not on display during the marketing launch. This look is a little monochromatic for my tastes but I don’t mind the color itself.

I know there is a lot of folks who prefer white. Here again not my bag baby unless some items of flare get added like a body stripe kit or something. Plus I hate the thought of being parked on the side of the HWY during a snow storm in a white vehicle.

Then there is black. Best full body shot I could capture. Lighting sucked in the video.

I actually really like the white!
I’m confident white will be the #1 selling color, there are two different white options listed. I’m assuming the upper trim white will be a Pearl and the 1958 will probably offer a white white.

I dunno if it crosses to wagons but on Hilux and Tacoma paint code 040 for the win. It's Super White! None of that 089 fancy pearl white nonsense.

Good ol' super white, helping your pickup stay humble and unnoticed since 1979.

True story, the touch up paint I got for Imelda (you know, back before I beat it up) works on Donna The Taco. Keeping the same paint code on your trucks for 25+ years may be the very epitome of cheap skate mini truck owner.

Or as I've started to hear people whisper, middle income semi-redneck.

The paint code is so ubiquitous for mini trucks that the gel coat pigment WilderNest used in laying up fiberglass was Toyota Super White.

I love the olive brown on my 1976 FJ40, same color as Tim Nakari's. It hides dirt and rust really well. I sorta doubt it'll be available for the 250 though.

I’m a huge fan of the Dune Beige color that came on the 40 series. I had the opportunity to spend some time in this one when we lived in Uganda.
IMG_3428.jpeg

I was really excited to see the 250 debut in a similar color. I’m not sure what they are calling this one, but it would be my first choice.
IMG_2054.png

Obviously I’m a huge fan of the Quicksand color also. If I ever paint my 80, it’ll be on the short list for color options. I’m not sure if this one is quicksand or dune beige but I think it’s amazing!

Also love the 70 series in this color!

Kurt posted this on MUD. Looks like a factory high air intake. And the trail dust two tone on the “LandCruiser” trim. This is looking like my dream equipment package. Hoping it’s not covered in “Trailhunter” badges.
