Is that OEM? Should have updated it to the 99+ intake so you can replace the MAF with a denso part that is still available. If you want a spare older style MAF you are welcome to buy mine.
It is and it’s fine. All is well with this little machine.

Just running mosquito pass w/ a few people. Nothing hard. Eating tacos in Leadville, then headed home.
Nice, too far to drive in my pickup looking for something close here on the front range. Depending on how I am feeling.

Dorkle install at the Cruiser Day Spa (Bill’s Toy Shop)

My turbo has heat soaked the air box so bad that the air filter element is melted and fused to the bottom. Removal of that will be this weekends project.

Intake air temps of the OBD2 monitor showed a drop in temps on the way home. And some seat of the pants power gain due to increased air density.

Also installed an OEM manual am/fm antenna to replace my broken power unit.

Ended up getting some 555 rear end links from a 2nd gen and reinstalling my front sway bar today. Was on the edge of tolerable before I put her on 33s, now the roll is just too much in a scenario like hard braking with a little steering input. I'm just going to take the time and remove the links anytime I'm on a harder trail (might even just leave it on if I know there's going to be a lot of off camber). Such a breath of fresh air having that back on for the road. Truck is nice and responsive again and just so much more pleasurable to drive. Plus if I have scouts in my truck that's much more peace of mind.

New CV’s for the 4Runner. Did the boot stretch this time so maybe the boots will last a little longer. Also new front swaybar links.
She’s ready for canyonlands in about a week and a half!

'99 LX 470 - installed 2 OEM knock sensors (got a code on #1) and a new starter and intake gaskets. Many trips in and out of the engine compartment! Found an mouse nest under the manifold, but no rodent damage. So far, no codes have shown up.

Is there any indication that this solves anything? Always seemed to me that avoiding junk aftermarket boots is probably the more important thing.
How long did your last set go? I had my originally finally fail, one last year and the other side this. So 15 and 14 years, 8 of them with lift. So I really can't complain. I've always just used the factory reboot kits and haven't had any issues getting about 10 years from the boots. Well, at least if I avoid slipping and jamming a pry bar into them. :doh:

Even OEM boots on 3rd gen 4runners get chewed up if you lift about 2.5"+. This is one of the reasons I went with a more modest lift in the front of mine and just dealt with a bit of rake.

Nothing last forever. If it's not the running angle then it's ozone, heat, road salt, abrasive sand or dirt, chemicals wearing them down.

I always ask "How long are they supposed to last?" And follow up with "How long did the proposed solution last?" I've yet to see one rip without evidence the rubber wasn't breaking down and crumbling already anyway.

The quality of the rubber and plastic does make a difference in this from what I see since all CV boots eventually split. It happened on our Jetta and those axles are straight and flat from the transaxle to the hubs. You know where they split? At the valleys and peaks of the bellows just like they did on both my IFS trucks.

Go to the 3rd gen forums. Tons of stories of rubbing boots failing in thousands of miles or sometimes even less even with OEM.

I only know I've personally owned two IFS Toyotas over the span now of 23 years and put roughly 300k miles on the combination of the two.

According to my logs I replaced 4 boots on the old truck, one pair when the originals split and I built two spares from junkyard salvage (not sure if those went with the truck or not). I don't know if Martin or K.C. have had to do axles or boots. But if it's got the set I put on then the originals went 17 years (it was a Japanese-made truck, so there's that) and the pair of OEM replacements I did in 2008 would be about 15 now. They weren't abused really but were Rubicon-proved anyway. I did eventually take some lift out but for most of its life the 1991 ran 1.5" BJ spacers and 25mm bars, so it was at the maximum lift it could take.

On the current truck it's just the two originals that split so I'm at less than a year, about 5k, into the experiment on one side and 3 months and less than 1k on the other. I don't run a ton of lift on this truck because, like you say there's no reason to tempt fate. I'll just have to see. I did end up finding two extra axles for my 2008 so I've done 4 boots on it, too, with the spares I have set aside.

That truck is worth close to 1/2 of my house. Now it's a craptacular house in junk town, but, yeah.

Those Norweld trays and canopies are $22k before you do anything to them! I wouldn't be surprised if that build is north of $75k already.

Amazingly he got it on BAT for around 25k. I think it has 45,000 miles on it.

The Norweld looks amazing. I was oogling the weld quality this morning.
