Do you mean because they don't put recovery points on the bumpers? I have thought about that several times over the years but suffice to say officially ARB has never put recovery points on their bull bars even prior to crumple zones and airbags.
Yes, I was referring to the lack of recovery points. For some reason I thought they had them way back in the day. Nevertheless, I do like ARB bumpers.

A lot of people assume those two holed 1/8" thick tabs with the washers tacked on them were for recovery but they are not. Those mate to a Hi-Lift adapter for lifting.

ARB has always said to re-use the factory points for recovery or in the case of the old school one for Imelda there were a pair of holes drilled on the sides to bolt on hooks.

Put some hawk LTS pads in the front of the 80. Pretty significant improvement in brake power. 10/10 would recommend.

Also put a lunchbox locker in the rear. No issues in the street at all.

That sounds great but you need to do another video of it under load! How much of a PITA were the headers to install?

Thanks dudes I got the lights set up today. I got some cool 3x3 lights that can do both white and yellow. No plans for a winch yet.

My ARB bumper has two recovery points. 98 4Runner. It is the bumper that goes on the 1st gen taco.

Doesn't ARB tell you to leave the stock tow hooks in place when installing p/n 3423020? Those two tabs on the bumper are used for the Hi-Lift adapter. On my old truck you had to remove the tow hooks because the bumper used those mounting points so they provided a place to bolt them. The 1st gen Taco uses crush cans for air bag compliance so they didn't use the tow hook locations and so don't provide a place to re-use them.

I have the 2 tabs on the top of bar for high lift and 2 shackle mounts on both sides of winch. 3rd gen 4Runner does not have the tow hook just the welded on tie down.

Rebuilding my hf2a. Measuring the size for the rear output bearing shims I noticed what believe to be an error. In step d it says to subtract measurement d from d. Which would equal 0. I believe what it intended to say is subtract c from d. Anyone ever noticed this? Or let me know if I'm wrong.

Anyway that confused me a lot. Assuming I'm correct I installed shims and bolted it in.

People's Soviet Socialist Republic of California,
Definitely post up on how this turns out! I was just thinking about this last night when I was going through the canyon last night. If it improves, I'll be doing the same thing on my 89.

LOL so far not great. I appear to have wired them backwards. Roger Brown's schematic (see here https://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/Headlights.shtm ) confused me on the common and high positions in the headlight plug. Pretty sure I wired it backward because the lights don't work with the harness plugged in. Just haven't had the time to pull it off the truck and double-check the pin-out. Instead of working on my truck, I had to run up to my parents' this weekend to fix their bobcat skidsteer which is their only snow blower. 🙄🙄🙄

Another thing I'm going to do is find a different place for my hi-lift jack. It partially blocks the beam pattern which doesn't help. Also need to get some adjusting hardware for the headlights to better aim them. My front end got crunched long before I owned it and the headlights are aimed sorta like Steve Buscemi's eyes right now.

KM3s (265 75 R16 (measure exactly 31.5 inches)) are on the truck (01 4runner on factory alloys) and first impression is... seem good! Two tires took 0 weights (kudos to the guy mounting and balancing them) the other two took moderate weight. My last set of KM2s took moderate weight on 3 and one had a conga line of weights.

The new kicks are smooth and quiet up to 90mph with good braking and cornering manners.

Not sure what they set the tire pressure to, I was running 38lbs on the KM2s. At 72,000 miles on them and over 6 years old they were noisy with minor tread still left on them. Still impressed at the mileage I got out of those things! They were getting pretty chunked up but I also gave them a good thrashing over the past few years.

Refurbing the touch points in a car I feel like goes the farthest when it comes to making something feel like new again. What kit/color did you use? It looks really nice man.

Agreed. Most of my projects I have focused on the mechanicals cause there is always something to fix, but I think the 80 is finally getting to the point I can mess around with the fun stuff. It is very nice to have the soft leather again.

I'm debating if I should have gotten a different color, like black maybe, but this is the kit I got. The color contrast is not as obvious in person. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QLYA3XS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Not hard overall, just took like 4 hours of stitching.

Not exactly a truck mod

I had gotten an Alu-Cab and the Racor Lift wasnt quite enough to handle it. Works fine for a standard RTT. You can see the CVT RTT I gave daughterofromer in the background

So I researched and found the Auxx-Lift rated to either 400 or 600 lbs. I picked the 400 lb unit. It had mixed reviews, but the poor ones came from people who installed it themselves who had trouble adjusting the two sides so I had it installed

Now with the push of a button I can lower the Alu-Cab to my truck or the floor. I used 4 heavy duty straps for car hauling to attach to the bottom of the rack

It is nice having 8Ft Garage doors to be able to drive out with an RTT on my roof rack, did I say GAMIVITI Roof Rack? Oh I just did :)
