I got it off (and out). Haven't put it back together yet. I'm trying to decide how to get around the burnt wire. The way I see it I can:

A) stand on my head in the engine bay, trying to strip it back until I hit good wire. Then splice on a length of good wire with a lug on the end to connect to the new alternator

or B) buy a new universal fit wire to run from the alternator to the battery (assuming that's where it terminates). I haven't researched that end of it yet.

Then put it all back together. I pulled the power steering pump, radiator overflow tank, air box assembly and splash pan just to get to the alternator. What a pain!

Bummer! Is that what you replaced at CM this year?

I feel your pain. Replacing the starter on my 100 wasn't that bad - removing the airbox, throttle body, and intake manifold just to get to the starter was the tough part.

Technically Andy replaced it while I watched. But yes, it's only 7 months old. (n)

There is a guy on Mud who makes custom low resistance wire sets for 80 and 100 series. Maybe it might be a good time to update your grounds and positive batter cables? Or even more fun, just make them! Something that I have been tempted to do.

Maybe I am going crazy and he isn't producing them for 100s any more. His handle is Fourrunner. Here is the thread for the 80 series set.

Culmination of the new rear Slee, rims and Grabber X3's. Went up the road to Jenny Creek today, did not make it too far before having to turn around.

Those X3s get some damn good reviews. How do you like them?

Only got them mounted up and installed on Monday. So far they are a lot quieter and smoother than the 40+k mile Goodyears I had on before. They are pretty hefty, and ~1" narrower at the tread than the Goodyears. They did do pretty well on the little bit of snow I hit yesterday. Wanted to push them a little further, but was rolling solo.

Here is a rear shot of @jps8460's handy work on the new 80 bumper:

If you (or anyone) ever needs heavy cables I'm happy to make them up. Just cover what it costs. I can cut and crimp up to 4/0 cables but I usually have plenty of 2 AWG welding cable and tons of terminals on hand. With about a week's warning I can get just about any gauge cable you'd want. Since I'm not local any longer it would have to be a shipped situation or stop in Grand Junction is always possible, too.

I purchased a set off of him several months back and replaced all in a few hours except for the ground on the transfer case. They are pretty good quality.

I replaced my accelerator cable last weekend with a new OEM one because I had to practically stand on the throttle to get it to go sometimes. Now it feels like i have a turbo. :headbang::moto:

redid the sleeping platform thing I have been using forever.
i tried selling or giving away, no luck, and it was useful. my only complaint was i made the frame out of 2x4 wood and it was bulky couldnt fit ghose fancy boxes to keep the stuff organized...i was gonna buy a drawer system to replace it, but 1. cant afford it, 2. I really like being able to roll into camp, fold the second row down, throw a window net on a door window, and have a bed ready...

so i made a new frame out of 1" 1/8 angle and some square stock I had in the garage. the new frame is as wide as the actual platform, so i have more room width and height wise underneath, should allow me to store everything in the frontrunner boxes now instead of loose and crammed around the wood frame. the new frame is plenty strong, and actually lighter then the stick frame...

maybe next year i will cut this in half width wise and put in one drawer with a fridge slide, but I have been saying that for almost a decade now, so I doubt it...

I can sleep 2 this way which has been the big reason I havent gotten away from this yet...with the hinged front half, i can sleep fully flat at 6-2, and the hinged part keeps the stuff in the back in the back pretty well when driving

this was the old way.

That’s neat Mike. I’m constantly thinking of how I want to do it in our 80. In the 60 we had a platform that slept me and Allison with the fridge in the back but now we have our 2yo daughter. Maybe the sleeping platform would be for my solo trips

Working to redo mine soon to sleep 2 + dog. The fridge will be going where the back seats are. Seats will be out. Platform will be fridge height (the Dometic is shorter than the ARB. The setup will allow the fridge to get placed in a drawer for the time I want fridge plus backseats.

Changed the oil on the 40. It's been a while. Started it up, noticed it was running a little rough. Realized I had forgotten to re-connect two of the spark plug leads that I had moved to clear way for the oil filter  Ran much smoother after I fixed that issue. :bolt:

I set up some switches for aftermarket goodies in my 100. So far they don't do anything at all except switch some relays :) I will be adding some lights soon and wanted these in place. I have plans for all of the switches but it may take years to get there. 2 are dual-position and the other 4 are single position. The relay box I found on Amazon it was cheap and functional.

I've had the steering wheel squeak in the 80 for a while but it was low on the priority list. Threw some lithium as shown below and all is well. A secondary benefit is that my steering finally feels much lighter also! You can find this area by getting down into the footwell and looking back up at the steering wheel.

looks really good! I'm curious how the long term will go, should post a update if you get a chance. Are you planning for aux. Lights or is this also to support the DRL mod?

Thanks I'm going to add some front lights and light bar and some on the rear too. I also plan to add air compressor lockers etc but that's further down the road.
