Holy freakin moly that was way more difficult than it needed or I anticipated it would be. At least I could get the tires back on it so I could get the ass end out of the garage.

I don't know what's more of a PITA - suspension work or exhaust work

Both!

The front end went pretty smoothly thankfully.

I bought some OME exhaust hanger relocation bracket. Did not even open it. Looked at the die grinder and just wacked it under the bed. The front hanger bolts were melded to the bushings. Bent one a little trying to hammer it out and was like F this. Only to find out those are the TWO bolts I did not buy new, and the shackle kit did not come with.

Was nice that the center pin on the factory leaf's appeared to be what Toyota did wrong. I thought I read it was a frame mount issue that I was going to have to solve by drilling a new hole in the perch.

Nice. That sounds annoying, but also good progress.

An idea hit me a few minutes ago. If you have "spare" leaf springs sitting around now chop off maybe 18" of curved section. Plus a few other bits: angle iron, a few bolts, and pipe. Drill holes and assemble a tire jack like the Trac Tire Jack. Use the 18" curved section of leaf, one end under the tire and stepping on the other end, to jack up the tire, and wiggle it onto the axle. Avoid lifting with that powerful back.

Idk just an idea that might be worth doing. I have an old set of leaf springs from a friend that could be sacrificed for a test like that. Or maybe into rock splitting wedges.

That sounds like a lot of work :ROFLMAO: I am sore-AF today, but mostly my hands.

What’s the deal with the Jeep…? Asking for a friend

It is for sale, if your friend is really interested :hill:

Cliff notes:
'79 CJ5, second owner, originally a New Mex rig but does have the typical rust where the hoop bolts to the tub. '06 4.0L mated to the factory T18a, NP231, HP44 ARB'd in the front, HP 9" ARB'd in the rear. Early Bronco style radius arms on Fox coilovers. Master Craft seats, five new 35" Krawlers.

She needs a new home that will finish her.

If either of you are serious, I am in talks to trade if for a Subaru. *but I would much rather sell it outright.

Welding! Big props to @Westward Cruiser
These are mine. I will decline to show you the earlier ugly ones. Today we figured out part of yesterday’s issue was wire feed.
Long Cruiser exhaust will be done this week.

Looks mint to me. The welding I did on my exhaust looks MUCH worse and has held up fine!

Power steering all connected. 3,000 psi working pressure industrial hose - 12,000 psi burst strength - with AN ends to adapters. One to GM pump. One to Toyota gearbox.
