So, my steering gear box was leaking bad. Finding a new is impossible, used and rebuild cheapest $800.00 but also $899.00 or the $1350.00 one, research. An 80 (told was beffier, not) series would bolt on to a 60 after 05/1985. Got one following a dimension check for $309.00 free shiiping, but the $250.00 return added some ( Nope, aint happening, ordered a seal rebuild kit $40.00). Once done will reinstall the 60 one again.
Using mostly HF ( great and cheap stuff) tools to uninstall without any problem, after spraying with Blaster spray a day prior. Actually pretty simple to do using a 31mm, 17mm, 14mm, 12mm sockets and wrenches (21mm to get tire off). A ball joint puller, Jaw puller, hammer, breaker bar, prybar.
Got stumped by a broken dust cover boot that was broken, so I ordered one and hope it fits. Not sure I can get the shaft in once box is mounted ( any suggestions appreciated).
Anywho, the 60 box is significantly beffier than the one I got/ ordered, there is also a few differences. As a slot for the bolt and a ring to remove the 60 compared to the 80 (absent). The fluid was not looking good either another good thing about it all, to get new. Also did my best to clean out the PSC resorvoir.
Qestion, install now and put boot on later or wait?
