Also one leader spoke on the radio as if he was giving u a bus tour of NY city.

When I am on a trip, whether leading from the front or just being a leader, if I am telling a long story, I will purposefully pause at times where its clear I'm in the middle of a sentence in case anyone needs to break in. I also tell people that's what I'm doing. I also tell people to give a moment before they reply which also allows emergency traffic in.

Disclaimer: I am from Queens, NY and never set foot on one of them tourist busses. :hill::hill:

I'm planning to be at the Chinaman's Gulch Campout assuming that there isn't a bunch of snow and ice on the roads between here and there (no chains, tires don't do well in snow/ice). Can't make CM due to finals and commencement falling at the same time at Mines. Y'all need to plan around my academic schedule for next year :D

The "classroom" session earlier this week was good. The parallels between what you do as a trail leader/gunner and what you do as a SCUBA divemaster/instructor are really interesting. I did the divemaster thing for a number of years back in grad school. For every dive site we took customers to, we had a fairly extensive emergency action plan, maps of the dive site and previous diving experience there, etc... Much of the new diver jitters are the same as new driver jitters, too. A calm, relaxed underwater divemaster guiding people has the same effect as a calm, relaxed trail leader guiding people on land. Neat!

At the Chinaman's event, I can volunteer as a n00b since I still very much am. It'll probably be another season or two before anyone should trust my spotting abilities and I don't have experience on quirks of vehicle maintenance/repair beyond my own. I, however, am very handy with a camera to take pictures!

Not sure if :Princess: will come to Chinaman's or not. Will there be activities for :Princess:s riding shotgun?

Aside from breakout sessions the pace should be pretty fast. Friday & Saturday night will also come with campfire entertainment. Carnage canyon will most-likely have a few buggies getting crazy as well...good photo opts.

Interesting you mention that. One of our club elders, Chris Hatfield, is a diving instructor. He wasn't present at the meeting, but has been active in Rising Sun for decades and is a past Commander and Cruise Moab founder. He has led Red Cross certification classes in first aid and CPR for the club in years past.

My :Princess: is an instructor. We're not active anymore (no salt water around here!) but we do get out to go diving in Oregon and Washington every year or two.

Does the club do first aid and CPR classes occasionally still? My cert lapsed and I need to get it renewed.

They have not been a regularly scheduled event (like annual for example) but we have had several. Glad Travis is looking into it, I recall they were well-attended and popular.

Do you guys have a tentative schedule? Is it drive up Friday, wheel Saturday, and drive home Sunday or are you wheeling/training all 3 days? I ask because I doubt I could get away for the whole weekend but may be able to swing Saturday with a possible early departure Sunday.

And, is there anything you need/want help with at this point? List on first page has a few things covered, but not all.

Yep, arrive Friday afternoon (maybe a night run). I've been updating the list as I get volunteers so if there is something you'd like to jump on please PM me.

I will keep you posted as time gets closer. Moving the weekend before, so I'm not sure if the boss will let me go play.

Is there going to be a caravan of people heading down? Might be good to drive together. Then I'd have someone to listen to my bad jokes over the radio. :D
