FYI that KOA in Buena Vista does not open until April 1.

Is there room for a popup at Chinaman's or is it more of a tent area?

Plenty of room at the base of Chinaman's for a popup or several 44' dual axle pusher motorhomes. That would be nice this time of year there for you AND your camping buddies. BRRRR!!!!

Call to action

Fellas-

I have a huge favor to ask of everyone tomorrow night... I could be jinxing this whole thing but there is a very good chance that this meeting maybe "standing room only". With that being said, can everyone please help newcomers feel welcome and help direct people to the classroom?

This class is somewhat two fold; we are obviously looking to increase our pool of Trail Leaders and Gunners but it's also our responsibility to spread trail etiquette/conservation to those "non-yota" 4wheelers that are out there too. Education is powerful and I believe that if more people/clubs know how Rising Sun conducts themselves out on the trail our efforts would be contagious!

Tomorrow night's meeting/class has been promoted on Social Media and I fully expect Heep Spies to be in the crowd along with players from other clubs. It's also my hope that there are a few of those offensive Side by Side (aka, SxS) people joining us as well. Let's make it count!!!

Thank you in advance,

Some issues i had-One trail leader didn't have a winch, which is a problem because many who do have winches don't test them b4 moab. It's nice to have a leader with a working n tested winch. Also one leader I think in an effort to speed things up would stay almost out of site from the rest of the group. This causes the group confusion since at times it difficult on some large slickrock areas to see where the trail actually is. Also one leader spoke on the radio as if he was giving u a bus tour of NY city. Clogging up the radio if their is a real problem or serious information thst needs conveyed. One guy got a bit snappy if u offered opinions to help. Which sometimes others see issues others miss. I had a good time though and liked the leaders. Just mentioning my observations.

Great points! Yes, everyone should test their winch before CM, but especially the leader!!

I always stress to keep the truck behind you in your rear view mirror at all times, and that goes for the leader especially. I might shoot ahead when we get close to an obstacle that I will be spotting, but other than that I always keep the truck behind me in sight.

I do get on the radio a lot and try to get conversation going sometimes, this is supposed to be fun! Some of my trails are on the easier side and have a lot of newbies so I try to educate a little about Moab and ask questions to the more experienced drivers to chip in also. I guess there is a fine line there. I never felt like a tour bus driver!! :)

There is definitely a balance to be had when leading. If you've ever been on a trail led by Cheeseman, you'll feel like you're on a tour, but he's great at keeping it strictly to business around obstacles and technical areas, not to mention just checking in with each individual. Greg is great to learn from.

As a trail leader we must always be humble and remember we are people's guides and not their instructors unless they want us to be.

Good feedback! We'd love to hear more!

I am just mentioning my opinion, I hope I am not stepping on any toes especially because i thought all the leaders I had dealings with were pretty cool fellas. I felt all the trail leaders I had in CM worked extremely hard and took their job very seriously, were very cool guys to hang out with, and I am not saying I could do any better. I appreciate all the work the CM staff does, and enjoy the event. Thank you for volunteering to be a trail leader to those that do.

It is important to always strive to be better as a club. Your input is extremely important because we're here for you and to provide a comfortable environment for folks to push their rigs and skills to the limit. By no means are you stepping on toes and your kind words mean a lot. I mean it when I say to keep giving feedback good or bad, small improvements or quick kudos.

I agree 100%, I always want to hear feedback, good and bad.

Hmm...have we ever sent out any kind of feedback form, like survey monkey or something, to ask specifically about the trail leaders? I know I would like the feedback, and would be great for the new leaders especially.
