random text messages

OK slight tangent, but does anyone get daily calls and voice mails from wildly random numbers, all from "morgan, regarding an important update on my loan eligibility." Like at least 2 or 3 times daily, numbers from all over the USA, and the same recorded message....

For the last 2-3 weeks, yes. And "they" leave voice mails.

Amazing world we live in where this kind of fuckary is ignored and dare I say, allowed.

Hadn’t heard from my nephew for too long a while. Coincidentally, I thought, I got a text from his mother, my sister, asking if I had been in touch with him recently. I replied no and didn’t think anything about it. Then, out of the blue, he calls asking what’s up? Did you get my new phone number? He then said he’d been texting me for weeks but hadn’t heard back from me. Then I realized all those random texts saying “hello?” “Testing, testing” and the like weren’t random texts after all. The knucklehead didn’t think to say hi, this is Alex or anything that identified the number texting me. Maybe some of those random texts aren’t random after all!

I blocked a new friend doing the same thing. I saw "hello" or some generic greeting and immediately blocked it then was wondering why I wasn't getting his texts.

Yup, best thing is mark it spam and delete. It's probably not a mistake by someone but phishing text. If you reply it validates the number has a meat bag on the other end who is willing to potentially read and engage. You think you're being clever but AI on the other end doesn't care and it'll be a deluge.
