I've been sending this response and it seems to stop them from texting me again.

I get random texts like that too, mostly short and weird ones from unknown numbers. I once used a bulk sms service for work, and it was smooth and reliable — no weird drops or repeats.

How timely. Just got a live one. So curious what the scam/angle is to get what? Money of course but how?
I assume the four 🤛 🤛🤛🤛 is friendly and not a threat of NSFW ?

That number returns as a landline with low spam risk.

https://www.whitepages.com/phone/1-386-401-1553

But White Pages can be tricked, so...

https://www.carrierlookup.com/

https://www.ipqualityscore.com/free-carrier-lookup/lookup/US/3864011553

Returns as VoIP number on Peerless Networks. Should say, the notorious Peerless.

https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pointofnoentry-peerlessceasedesistletterfinaljms.pdf

"We have determined that Peerless Network, Inc. is apparently routing and transmitting illegal robocall traffic, directly or indirectly, for entities involved in the following campaigns..."

Just thought it might be a good post to show some steps you can follow if you're trying to validate a message before responding. As the databases and AI models get better trained messages like those will get more specific and eventually get enough details right to be convincing.

I think bears repeating, do not ever reply to a text or email until you know it's real. Doing so helps train the algorithm, even if it's a pithy reply all it needs is any positive engagement to kick the number up in priority as live and responsive. And since AI cannot do emotion or sarcasm yet too well any response that it doesn't really understand is likely to be assigned as human and that will open the flood gates.

It's also better if you block or at least prevent from automatic actions on attachments (including not letting embedded images and graphics load) and links in messages. Embedded graphics can have validation links that confirm you opened the email.

Just delete.
