Dry Ice is unobtanium. Anyway, been using the heat gun and mechanical version, but first, a piece left by @MonPetiteShoe

Took out the seats and removed the carpet; it was filthy AF. Been using an 80-grit to get into those corners and remove a lot of rust. The floor pan by the door is compromised, so I will need to find someone to fab a new one for me.

The rear has fared much better, with less rust, but it still shows pitting. I plan to use the Eastwood Fast Etch, then the rust encapsulator on the pits, then a filler, and finally prime the floor. I've been debating whether to go with Eastwood Red Oxide for the floor to give it a fair chance of surviving.

Is your tailgate flat on the interior side? Mine is bowed in, probably from people standing on it and PO’s loading it with lumber sticking out the back with the tailgate down. Apparently a bowed tailgate is common.

Interesting! This one feels flat, but I'll take a closer look the next time I'm out there.

The easiest way to check is by looking down at the weatherstrip along the bottom edge as the tailgate is being closed. If it’s relatively even left to right it’s flat. Mine sits further away in the middle and nice and tight at the outer quarters or so. I’m not sure the best way to work mine back to flat.

The tailgates on 60’s are not super sturdy on the interior side. Try to avoid standing on it.

It’s most visible looking down through the open upper lift gate at where the lower section of the interior wall of the tailgate touches the big rubber bulb seal. It’s clearer if the the tailgate carpet panel is removed. With the panel removed it’s also fairly easy to see the pushed in interior panel. Yours might be perfectly flat. Mine was used by a contractor for a while, more like a pickup truck.

Like ih8rust is any better, anyway, every time I see your handle, I start recalling the VDub ads. Hilarious how they engrained it.

Way easier, I regret not doing it sooner, but I couldn't get my hands on it. Everyone was sold out, and I was impatient. Lesson learned. Meanwhile, bought myself a 7" angle grinder for the tough-to-reach spots. It's getting there.
