Do you know if he/she will sell that tailgate? I love the hunt!

You could be my liason and we could meet in a secret location. Ha. I am just wondering if you are in touch with them and if they would consider selling the tailgate in the picture. I could just go through you not the owner. My tailgate is really roached.

I saw someone cut out the middle portion of a roached tailgate, and weld in a new panel, and then apply vinyl letters (since embossing them would be difficult).

I got my tailgate from Canada (super nice guy - sold me both a tailgate and a headache rack and even drove them across the border to avoid custom issues and shipped them from the US). I bought a hammer and dolly kit and flatted out a lot of dents. I never got it perfect, but got it quite presentable.

That white on the interior is pretty dead on for what mine was too. I wasn't positive it was Lilly white, but that's what I repainted it anyway. I'm really quite pleased with the end color on it and I'm glad I kept it white instead of going tan.

^^ I think that link still pulls "finished" photos of it.

I will check into that. I was reading his build thread on those. They looked amazing.

Besides mud and ebay, does anyone have good suggestions for hunting down 45 specific parts? Thanks, Steve.

You need to find a parts guy that is willing to look up part numbers beyond 1969. Toyota purged all of the pre '69 data from their computers so I have been told multiple times a part is NLA/discontinued only to call Dan and have him order the parts for me. We have Jerry in Boulder as well. For 45 sheet metal, I would echo what Barry posted above.

Is this a 1965 FJ45 or a 1964 FJ45 first sold in 1965?

The paper parts/shop manuals from the 1960s (which my dealer has) show the part numbers, which do carry forward to today's numbers if the part is still made. Things like the gas cap were carried forward, but the newer caps don't have chains in them (as I had wished mine did). Those ancient paper manuals appear on eBay at times, but are usually pretty pricey.
