Long overdue for an update! I’m hoping to hear it run this weekend. I’ve been fighting oil drenched connectors and some corrosion.

I’ve repinned, heatshrunk, re split loomed like the entire engine harness. I’d pay stupid money for a clean nice OBD1 harness lol.

Here are some samples of what I repinned and repaired.

Looking good, I really like how you witnessed marked all your bolts. Good call and the "NO OIL", I've heard horror stories of people forgetting the oil on a first start after a build.

That oily harness just sucks!!

This is a habit I formed at NASCAR Tech in our engines class. Our instructor was like Torque wrench (or stretch gauge) in one hand and oil pen in the other. Mark that bolt the second you get done torquing it.

Fiona Lives!! Idle was just ECU relearning how not to stall. The check engine light is a lack of rear knock sensor communications between 1800 and 5200 rpm (code 55). Aside from that she purrs like a kitten, no leaks. Going to be a bit before I can deal with the knock sensor, but I’m pumped.

For startup, I pulled the ignition coil trigger wire and cranked until I had movement on the oil pressure gauge.

Figured out the CEL for the knock sensor. The used knock sensor I installed was bad. I installed another used one I had and it solved the problem.

The engine now has about 1.5 hrs of light load running, including a couple laps around the neighborhood.

Up next is to dump the break-in oil, change the filter.

Daniel @Inukshuk gave me a pro tip on a replacement PAIR valve hose. It used a Tacoma radiator hose. The fit is perfect! Thanks dude!! Toyota PN: 16572-07040

The hardware for installing the plug wire covers came is, so I got the covers installed.

I got the hood back on and installed some aftermarket struts. I’ve had the same one on my other 80 for about 2yrs now. They seem to be holding up well. They come in 2pc kit for left and right and include the brackets and hardware to replace everything including the ball stud. At time of writing, the kit is $39

Unfortunately my passenger side washer squirted isn’t working, but I’ll get that sorted out.

I’m hoping to get the new to me headlights installed tomorrow and put the grill back in.

Ok so a long while back I bought these depo headlights thinking..... they’re for a RHD 80 so the pattern will be messed up, but that’s better than 2 busted shattered headlights and used ones are a bazillion dollars when you find them. (Still looking for a pair wink wink).

Well they have sort of a weird overseas variant of bulb and fit (h1 and h4) that require adapting, and the whole think seemed hokey.... so I made it even more homey... sort of.

My original headlights were in great shape minus the glass. So I decided to just swap glass. I got some butyl rubber heatedvthem up separated and swapped. Total with cleaning and install was about 3.5 hrs.

Haven’t road tested the pattern yet. It would be sweet to find just the glass some where, this was a $250 hack up.

overall I I’m pleased. Going to rip it around this weekend and hopefully emissions test it next week.

I did projector retrofit to my depos. Personally I think it's one of the best things I ever did to my cruiser for night time visibility and I still have the high beam side for a driving light, fog light, or high beam.

Oh emissions..

I was fighting a NOx issue, but nearly passing twice. I’ve also been logging a lean target A/F and short term fuel trim thing. So I made some adjustments and got pretty close.

One of my O2 sensors was really lazy, so I replaced both of them this morning after my test where I barely failed for NOx

When I returned to testing I failed miserably for everything lol. My target A/F is at 5.0V which means it’s over correcting for a lean condition. 🤪🤪

Going to drive it for a few days and see what shakes out.

Booooo hisssss. Everything else tests great and is in fine working condition.

Hmm - some E85 might help here, as with many 80 series owners.

Possibly. That would lean it out. But I think I just need to hard reset short and long FT’s with new o2 sensors. The 93-94’s are always a pain to diagnose.
