genuine curiosity here: can you explain that in laymen’s terms? Your post seems like you think it’s a bad thing. I read about that earlier and thought this was good? I mean, a bunch of billionaires are going to lose some cash but usually the rate drop means good times for refinancing for us poor folk. But sounds like that’s incorrect?

again, genuinely curious. I don’t have a single stock or investment (other than whatever retirement plan my employer has) so I don’t follow any of that stuff. I’d like to learn.

I believe that the Fed will lose control of interest rates in this coming correction. The part that is rarely talked about is who is buying this debt that has a negative real rate of return (return minus inflation). It is either the World's governments or speculators. The speculators are just hoping to sell the debt in the event that rates go even lower. That isn't a sustainable model. Who the hell wants a 1% coupon (return on investment) from a bond when the inflation rate is 2%???

@AxleIke but you do have US dollars. This spending will further devalue the dollar and your purchasing power. The dollar has lost almost 50% of its value since the year 2000. While I agree we are seeing an event that has not been expereinced for ~5 generations, the cost will be huge for all of us, even if you have no stocks.

Great post. This is it. Inflation is not something that has to be, but instead is a byproduct of the expansion of the money supply. For many Americans since 2008, the increase in their pay has not kept up with the increase in cost to maintain their standard of living. Inflation is known as a stealth tax. This is because it reduces the cost to service the United State's debt, but it also reduces investment returns and increases cost of living. In effect, by debasing your dollars (printing more), the US government is taxing you without ever actually taking any money from you. Inflation benefits debtors and deflation benefits savers/investors.

Ah, now that makes some sense. I can never keep track of how these high level moves actually make their way down to us. You hear about how this or that is going “stimulate the economy” but it never makes any noticeable difference here on the ground.

Devaluing currency is something that I can understand and see. Thanks Jeff!

Glad that it is making more sense. Right now I believe that what the Fed is doing is less about stimulating the economy and more about keeping the credit markets working. We are only getting started with the money printing. I wouldn't be surprised to see the combined debts of the US government and the Fed at 4-6 Trillion dollars per year for the next few years. That is deeply concerning.

We can never pay back our debt. We burned that bridge long ago. All that remains to do is devalue said debt. The only good thing that may come out of all this is government might finally bring big pharma to heal. The pill popping population are going to be very upset soon.

If anyone has a source on TP, would be a good thing to know. On my last roll. CVS downtown and Walgreen's are out. Target was out Saturday.

Would be nice to wipe after I poop.

I saw a funny meme on one of the NFL forums I frequent that had pictures of Charger apparel as an alternate TP. For die hard Broncos of course Raiders or KC apparel would work just as well LOL!

On a more serious note I stopped at the Evergreen Safeway on the way home from work tonight and they were still out.

As for the airborne precautions theyre only on it if they are on a vent/trach/ etc essentially aerosol...With that said theyre all still on droplet precautions. The difference is n95's are for airborne and surg masks are for droplet.

It would seem central banks already have lost control. LIBOR-OIS spread jumped this morning to 75 points. LIBOR-TED widening doesn't signal perceived strength in the banks.

The market is obviously pessimistic and the weaknesses are becoming clear. It seems we're on the leading edge of a flood of liquidity issues and bankruptcies.

I’m not sure how they can do that. But I bet a lot of companies will try to do things like this.

🤷🏼‍♂️ isn't that sorta how it works in America? You can be hired or fired for any reason outside of the few things that are protected. At-will employment I think?

You might check at office supply stores. Staples by us sells paper products, for instance.

No, there is so many rights that you ha e protected to you. The key thing is weather you are a “at will” or “right to work” state. But the emphasis being what elements look like in a state court based on the facts presented.

I imagine it will end up being who has the money and time for a lawyer. And maybe if the state decides to throw you under the bus for possibly spreading COVID-19 more.

For me, I just have a 14 day self-quarantine if I travel anywhere. That seems pretty reasonable to me and we're already all setup to do full telework.

I totally get it. And in some respects people probably need incentive, legal or not, to do the right thing. I just hope that people understand what civil liberties are, and also understand when it’s crucial to use them, and when it’s not.
