Moab has closed hotels to nonresidents

Thx for posting. I read most of the Public Health Order. Camping is closed too:
Section 3. Overnight Lodging. Effective at 10 pm (MST) on March 17, 2020, all overnight and short-term lodging facilities (including but not limited to hotels, motels, condos, townhomes, guest homes, RV parks, and all camping on public or private lands) within Carbon, Emery, and Grand Counties [Moab] may only check-in, rent, or lease to Essential Visitors and Primary Residents. Essential Visitors and Primary Residents may utilize public lands for primitive camping purposes. ... An Essential Visitor is any individual renting lodging or camping for an amount of time less than 30 days for the purposes of work ... .

And Section 9 travel advisory: “Wyoming, Carbon, Emery, and Grand Counties are surrounded by virus activity. Additionally, SEUHD requests that visitors that are not here on essential business return to their home and non-essential visitors planning to come to Carbon, Emery, and Grand counties reconsider their plans and remain near their home.”

Wow. Wild that they're closing primitive camping on public lands around Moab. I have a few friends who full-time in RVs scattered around the southwest. They're starting to get worried there won't be anywhere for them to go. Already they've been kicked out of state parks. One of them is staying in parking lots in New Mexico now but who wants to get back into federal land, and the other found some private land via one of those boondocking host websites that they're sheltering on in Arizona.

Douglas, We're in an RV park in Southern AZ right now. But have your buddies try this: https://www.boondockerswelcome.com/

We're headed back to our isolated 41 acres in Southern CO on Monday. So glad to be separated from the masses during this bullshit!

Yup that's how my friends with a big 5th wheel found some land to stay on in Arizona. Now their big problem is they can't find basic supplies or clean drinking water. They're in a bit of a pinch as they don't have a house to go back to. I'm sure they'll figure it out but it's gotta be a challenge.

I'm glad you're making it back home before stuff gets crazier, Dave!

I’m trying to get my head around this, as I had a trip planned to SE Utah next week. Are they saying that you can’t camp on remote BLM land as well (i.e. Lockhart Basin), or just camping around Moab where sites are within 200 yards of each other?

It reads that way, although I don't know how they could enforce such a rule. But if the supposed point is to stop circulating the dreaded virus then travel bans have to be put in place so infections are isolated in the hot zones and mass exits from urban centers don't overwhelm limited resources in small towns.

You guys over there have several top tier trauma and advanced medicine hospitals. We only have St. Marys. The red pins are level 2 and green are level 1 trauma. St Marys here in GJ serves a huge area and combined population. It can get overwhelmed just from locals much less tourists.

Why they're so worried in Moab is that they only have a level 4 trauma center, the grey pins. Level 3 are black in this map. A level 4 is essentially like a well stocked 24-hour doctor's office and lab.

We only have St. Marys.

St Marys is where my aunt and uncle spent over a month in and out of the ICU with H1N1 when that was happening. My aunt fully recovered and still lives in Glade Park up above the monument. My uncle was released and went home to their house but then a week or so later died of complications on his way back to the hospital. He was about 53 when he died. Healthy dude with tons of life. One day they were both fine and the next day they were both in the hospital.

Maybe if they had lived next door to the hospital in Grand Junction rather than a half hour away up on the mountain the outcome would have been different but you still have to live your life the way you want to live your life. And they loved (and my aunt still loves) living up in Glade Park.

I feel for everyone out in remote places with limited access to medical care.

Not panic but madness, I can't get my tires rotated at discount right now as it is considered a non-essential service right now.. if that isn't essential I don't know what is:mad:

This is a great set of info graphics, as usual way better info on our forum than on the news!
Thanks again for all the great information and insight everyone!

Out here in Monterey County, California, automotive repair businesses and parts stores are considered essential services and are still open. I wonder why there's the difference between California and Colorado on that.

Madness is right. Even -if- this virus is as bad as the guberment and media has got everyone believing we're going to starve more people than it potentially could ever protect isolating everyone. I braved the supermarkets this morning. People haven't stopped panicking nor hoarding. We've gone beyond flattening some curve into being herded.

I need to make a substantial meal tonight because I do my monthly platelet donation in the morning. Which got me thinking what about the people who are truly working hard to keep the social fabric from unraveling? Obviously medical people but firefighters, Flight For Life crews, staff at power and water plants and linemen, plumbers, etc.? You know, actual essential jobs. I sure hope all those people stocking up on 10 boxes of saltines leaving none on the shelf are doing it to feed them.

Then I wonder why -if- this virus is as bad as they claim why aren't the so-called leaders even so much as wearing masks, much less practicing the self isolation, social distancing and avoiding touching each other or their faces? Why must it be We The People who have to cower, sacrifice and fight over scraps?

We keep cracking up watching all these officials crowd around each other, shake hands, touch their faces, and do other stupid things. Considering though that the prime minister of Canada is self-isolating because his wife has it and the president of Brazil was reported to have tested positive, maybe they should be a bit more careful. 🤦🏼‍♂️

So it's all a big joke then? The effects of their actions sure don't feel funny.

I wish it was a big joke but it doesn't seem like it right now.

I personally use humor (and sometimes dark humor) as a coping mechanism. I've been consuming an astronomical amount of dank COVID-19 memes in the last week.

https://denver.cbslocal.com/2020/03...san-miguel-county-ordered-to-shelter-in-place

"SAN MIGUEL COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) – The San Miguel County issued a shelter-in-place for residents effective Wednesday through at least April 3. The county is also now partnering with United Biomedical to test the county for coronavirus.

The county says they have several critically ill residents who need “intensive hospitalization.” They add there have been multiple cases of children under the age of 4 who are showing serious symptoms.

“We’ve entered a new and concerning phase that requires swift action. We have an opportunity to arrest the spread of COVID-19 and potential loss of life,” Dr. Sharon Grundy, County Medical Officer said.

Tests will be conducted by a blood draw from a healthcare provide. Those tests will go to a lab with projected results to come back within two days.

The testing period will last two weeks. The Colorado National Guard is helping with those tests.

The shelter-in-place includes prohibiting all gatherings and events larger than 10 people; events at daycares, private schools, recreation centers and libraries; all public transportation.

“Visitors to San Migual County are directed to return home immediately,” the county stated.

Violators to these orders are subject to criminal and civil charges."
