Say what you will but this proves our freedom is nothing but an illusion. That to me is by far the scariest takeaway.
Great article on Slate.

https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2020/03/coronavirus-tsa-liquid-purell-paid-leave-rules.html

"All over America, the coronavirus is revealing, or at least reminding us, just how much of contemporary American life is bullshit, with power structures built on punishment and fear as opposed to our best interest. Whenever the government or a corporation benevolently withdraws some punitive threat because of the coronavirus, it’s a signal that there was never any good reason for that threat to exist in the first place."

Actually I have a different opinion. The majority of the time government isn't needed that much. This is one of those times that Government is needed as too many people who dont want their "Freedoms" violated will do what they want like all those young people in Florida hanging out close to each other on the beach yesterday. This is one of those times someone needs to step up and make the hard calls and decisions. It comes down to making hard and unpopular decisions to save peoples lives. If these calls help keep my elderly family members safe, I am all for it

I don't see any of this as an indication our liberties or freedoms are an illusion

In the same 24 hours 2,300 people died of heart disease and 1,600 died of cancer. If illness and death required an immediate reaction why now and with a relatively less dangerous disease. Around 35,000 people are infected annually in the U.S. with HIV and about half of them will die (50% morbidity, this in young otherwise healthy people). Where's the outrage for that virus?

David, those are not contagious diseases and I don't see that as relevant. HIV is only spreadable by intimate contact, not proximity. You can have those and I wont catch it from you because you are out and about. I dont want to catch the COVID-19 because of choice others make.

You want everyone else to modify their behavior to suit you. The right to disassociate is implicit with our right to associate. If you're afraid of the germs you should absolutely isolate yourself. They're both your choice.

Your welcome to your opinion and I am welcome to mine. We dont have to agree. Something you dont get in other countries

The great thing about this club is the diversity of opinions and thought. We are a very welcoming group. Lets not be antagonistic to each other. Your posts come across as attacks rather than discussions, . . . just say'in

Typical......all these laws and granted authorities that are being applied now have been on the books for decades. No one seemed to be care when they were created by your elected officials. No seems to care about getting involved in the process and now when they are being dusted off an applied in a situation that they were created for everyone is screaming bloody murder and claiming “my rights are being suppressed“ and blaming the police.......can’t wait for the jack booted thug term to start being used.

How do you have a debate without an antagonistic viewpoint? That would just be a lecture.

FWIW, @Inukshuk probably will correct me, but I believe violating this 10 person order is a class 1 misdemeanor.

I have no issue with cordial respectful debates. I stated my opinion, you disagree and rather than discussing you basically accused me of being part of the problem. So continue with your debate. I am out of this thread

You might have a look in the political section. I think it's still there. I've been saying essentially ticking guys off saying the same things since 2006.

Fair enough and I respect those that get involved to address and discuss their government To make legitimate change, not second guess it during an emergency.
I just found the Slate article you posted being another one of the op ed pieces of how the system is bad and the people that work in the system everyday are bad yet, other then complaining about it no one actually does anything about what they’re complaining about...

Cheers

LOL, while you posted this I was scanning back through the political threads. Since the Slate article is about TSA allowing 12 ounce bottles of Purell...

https://risingsun4x4club.org/xf/threads/tsa.14532/

Apparently I'd tripped across an article that claimed the TSA agents doing searches on multiple people with the same gloves were infecting people with herpes.

Ah if this was in the Political section which is still there I likely would have avoided posting :) Kind of like staying away from Chat on Mud. It can suck you in

I can see and appreciate Dave and others perspectives even if I don't agree. Dave is a long time friend and I took no offense to his posts. I personally dont enjoy this kind of debate is why I backed out, not that I felt offended in any way.

So I'm allowed to my opinion while I'm being forced under threat of civil and criminal law not to associate with friends and family? Thats sure sounds like a prison more than freedom.
Do you live in San Miguel county? Then you aren't being forced to do or not do anything.

I really enjoy the club for its diversity of personalities, perspectives, and opinions. I come to the forum as a break/respite from my normal daily activities. It's great to be able to chat with you all and hear different opinions that I might not normally hear. And as a bonus, I get to know you all in real life! But now at a distance.

TLCA has an updated list of cancelled and rescheduled events: https://tlca.org/events/

And here's the note from Ross Woody (TLCA president):

I’m writing today to respond to numerous questions regarding the cancellation and rescheduling of several TLCA events due to COVID-19 restriction. There is declared a national emergency by President Trump, the CDC and the World Health Organization which has resulted in cities, towns and states issuing travel bans and closures.

First, I want to share with you how our lives have been impacted over the past week. On Thursday, March 12th, our family and friends were packing and making final plans to attend our son’s wedding in Hawaii. On Friday, March 13th, the DOD issued a travel ban on all military families, which cancelled their wedding. California Governor Newsome had issued a ban on public gatherings, and my company had closed our San Francisco office. After talking within our family Saturday, our son encouraged us to make the trip in spite of the cancellation, and just make it a family vacation. Saturday and Sunday brought the announcement of closures to public facilities, parks, memorials and restaurants across Hawaii. Late Sunday evening our family decided that we shouldn’t risk travelling, and we would have to cancel our flights, hotels, car rentals, etc. It’s a shot to the gut because we’ve planned it for almost a year.

The COVID-19 restrictions issued locally and countrywide have led to the cancellation or rescheduling of 5 TLCA events. In most cases, events were full, and registrations were closed. The host clubs have spent some of the registration funds in order to put on these events. In most cases, the club spend a significant portion of what has been collected through registration towards the overhead of the event, as their “profits” come at the end from the raffle proceeds. Issuing full refunds right now could break a club.

In the cases where the event is rescheduled, our hope is that you can attend the new dates. If not, there is no choice but to work with registrants to refund registration fees. If you can’t make a rescheduled event, please let the registration contact know. Please have patience with the host club to allow them time to assess the monies spent, merchandise on hand, and their ability to issue refunds.

Over the next month, TLCA will be working with the event organizers to determine what can and will be done for our members that are asking for refunds. Our SOPs cover this topic under Event Cancellations, but it was written from the point of view where the registrant is cancelling. We don’t specifically cover an event being cancelled so we will need to address this with each event host.

I would like to make sure that at the end of this, our members are happy, the host clubs are happy, and the Board of Directors are happy. Please give us time to work on this once the “curve has flattened” and we can focus on a resolution. I know that we as a Board understand the significance of these registration refunds to our members and the clubs, and working together we will make it right. Just give us time to review it and determine what we feel will be fair to all.

To conclude my family’s tale of woe due to COVID-19 cancellations, even though we bought trip insurance, and have travel insurance through our credit cards, both coverages have exclusions for epidemics and pandemics. We are essentially quarantined to our homes, and can’t fly, even if we wanted to, but the insurance coverages won’t cover our any of our costs. The airlines are issuing travel credit, but if we can’t reschedule our trip, we will be out over $5000 in airfare. Our son and his fiancé are out several thousand in deposits and payments for things like flowers, cake, wedding dress, etc. I say this not for your pity, but just so that you know that I know how devasting this can be for everyone and I feel your pain and anguish. I feel that if we are calm and use some understanding, we will get through this together.

I encourage you to use this time to write about your experiences right now as content for Toyota Trails. Write an article on an event that never was, or send an article about the project you completed as a result of extra time you may have due to closures and quarantines. The TLCA community will appreciate these stories more than ever.

Thank You,
Ross Woody
TLCA President
