I’m interested in what you figure out. My silver ‘87 60 has terrible paint. Can’t tell if it had a clear coat or not. Looks pretty much like a faded beer can sitting in a ditch. But it’s got character! That’s what I tell myself.

I’ve seen a couple with fresh factory silver and a clear coat, and it looks incredible.
Patina!

Day 21. More paint prep.

Hinges, charcoal canister, a few brake line brakets, and brake master cylinder are the only spots of rust left to tackle. Engine bay work will be completed in my garage.

Was your tailgate straight? Mine has that common pushed in inside panel (probably someone stood on it to get to the pos roof rack, and carried heavy lumber that stuck out over the open tailgate) and a slightly bowed upper lip. Looks like a pita to straighten.

Jealous. Mine is bent in enough the seal at the bottom doesn’t really compress in the middle section. Work to be done there. It really looks like it could be bent back fairly well, just need to figure out a way that doesn’t involve cutting the panel out and welding it back.

If I end up cutting mine to add tailgate storage I am happy to send you the non bent bits.

There was a great storage system out there at one time that was stout enough the frame would straighten bent tailgates. I think the guy went out of business, though. Not free.

@KC Masterpiece FYI the Cruiser Cult guys are selling yellow zinc plated 60 (and 40) engine bay hardware for pretty dang cheap right now. I think the story goes that somebody had all these pieces commissioned at a plating shop and they never paid. Cruiser Cult came in and bought it all. If you want some bling in your engine bay, check it out: https://cruiser-cult.myshopify.com/collections/pot-o-gold

I just noticed what appears to be washer fluid in your headlight reservoir. If so, that would be the first 60 I have ever seen that the headlight reservoir wasn't cracked! It sits right there above the EGR reactor and gets toasted.

Yes it holds fluid!

No EGR to worry about.
