Day 17. Getting close to the finish line. Undercoat primed and painted. Raptor liner on the cab bottom and wheel wells. Final repair on the rear shock mount crossmember.

I will pull all that information at the end. Lots of hours.... 17 today.

Looking at our total build budget we will be in for the equivalent of a current generation 4 runner when all is said and done. But that also includes lots of post body shop plans I have in the works. Things will slow down once I get the truck home due to my availability and the cobwebs forming in my wallet.

I was a little disappointed to see the Aisin hubs black. That's a nice visual touch to see red or even more neat gold dials and bright bodies. Painted over black feels a little undercoat at a corner used car lot to me.

If it makes you feel better they are old and were black before. Going into the trail spares bin and I have a new set on the bench in the garage.

High likelyhood the OME kit will be replaced once the rest of the build is complete and I know where final curb weight ends up.

There's got to be a limit to how much work can be done. Masking is super time consuming without practical benefit for something that would only ever catch the eye of an OCD Toyota enthusiast. Disappointed is probably overstating it. Just that Aisin hubs are kind of a detail of Toyotas. Like using the right blue on a Ford engine block (which you'll notice I did on the oil pan in the 1991, it irritates OCD Ford enthusiasts) or an oil leak on a Land Rover.

Lucas never made computers because they couldn't get them to leak oil.

But, seriously, Rover oil leaks are a feature. When they stop leaking it's because you need to add more.

Very minimal progress yesterday. Some small wiring repairs.

Made a decison on rear bumper. Man a Fre has one standard 4plus bumper that is bare metal and was used for test fitting. Dave at 4 plus indicated a price increse to $3,300 this year if they decide to keep making them. Man a Fre gave me a sweetheart deal for $2200.

I really considered a 4x4 labs for the added protection but it really ruins the body lines. It looks great on the 80 but out of place on the 60.

Im considering having both the front and rear raptor lined instead of paint but I am not sure yet.

I vote paint...I think your build deserves a clean look/high end look, which personally I don't think RL achieves.

I might be even consider powdercoat even though I usually shy away from it now on most armor. But I don't see the truck being abused and a good primer and top in powder I think would last and look real nice.

Followup does anyone know a goos powdercoater in Junction area?

I primed and rattlecanned the 80 rear and it is great for touchups. I just mask off the body and give it some TLC after each winter.

I agree that the black powdercoat is the best look. The only raptor I like on armor is smoother eggshell style finish. I dont like the chunky bedliner look.
