@KC Masterpiece For What it's worth Dave Gore is shutting down 4Plus at the end of the year. I've got his u-bolt flip kits and they're works of art. I've also seen his 60 front bumpers on a couple different trucks and they look great. One of those would be on my list of things to buy if I had the cash before he closes up. I haven't seen a 4x4 Labs on a 60 in person so I can't comment, but I know they have a great reputation.

That is great to know. I was looking at ordering it through Man A Free since they have them in stock. Luke at 4x4 labs also makes an awesome bumper. I am just not sold on if the side protection is needed or not. I have slammed the rear of the 80 down on a few ledges. I do not plan on any hardcore wheeling with this truck, but I don't want to smash the rear up if we run fins and things or something similar.

What are you running currently and have you damaged the rear quarters? @fyffer If I recall you also have a rear swingout?

All the 4Plus stuff that Man a Fre has can be got directly from the source, to your detriment or advantage. Maybe they mark it up. Or maybe when Dave is done Man a Fre would be the only place with stock until they run out. Just something to keep in mind if you got that route.

@Crash had some sort of wings fabricated on his FJ62 after it got some body work I think. I crunched my lower passenger bed sides on my Tacoma just doing some mild 'wheeling. I also jammed a rock behind the rear tire on the driver side that dented the other side on Top Of The World. But that's not mild 'wheeling exactly... Imelda had a Marlin rear bumper that enveloped the trailing parts of the bed. I wish I could get one of those for my Taco, that was a great bumper. Anything with an overhang is vulnerable.

More hidden bondo and rust on the passenger rear quarter. Looks like a fun time doing the interior repairs while keeping the headliner clean.

I didn't remember that! I have given so many parts away I honestly don't remember who I've given what to LOL! People give me parts, I collect them (my says I hoard them) and whenever someone needs something, I check my piles and boxes and give stuff to whoever needs them.

Hi. On Those quarter panel protection. Quarter panels was seriously modified . They was made shorter and higher.
I think one was already damaged. But sliders was working good.

As far as Bumpers, sliders and belly plate as I understand it, are all custom made. 1/4" steel (note: front bumper with Air tanks ea. side), all except BP welded to frame (pros and cons).
Yes, a Rear swing out with new TMR spindle that gives it a little bit of a squat there, also due to added wt from the Inside drawers same side.
What you are having done is pretty much all I and @PhatFJ did last Spring. Both rear Quarter panels and around doors just the same, new Driver front quarter panel I had bought 3 years ago replaced. Then Painted Original White inside a Vevor Blow up booth by the Phat one.
So I can easily Id with all you are getting done. Is it perfect, no, but I am stiill very pleased with the turn out. New (AM) Gutter trim, Bezels, Griil, Weather seals around Doors and Windows (don't remember all the Techn. terms) Tail lights, Emblems except the Blue 4WD one. Made some flaps for inside the Rear vent and more I can not think of at the moment.

I have hit that front Bumper so damned hard, several times I can't even begin to explain it. All that was ever needed was some Rattle can to cover it.

I have a love / hate relationship with the sliding windows on the 80. If the 60 gets anything it will be a set of gullwings.

Some thinking points about using bumpers and sliders for air tanks.

Consider the difference in pressure and kinetic energy. It takes a press tons of pressure to move metal while a blacksmith swinging a hammer of perhaps 10 lbs can do the same thing. That's because of velocity. A press is working at tenths or hundredths of meters/second while a hammer swung even casually is 10 or 100 times as fast. Velocity is exponential in the amount of work done.

Then consider failure modes. Compressor air tanks usually fail by tearing open along seams and welds rather than exploding into shrapnel. That's because 100 psi isn't really that much force as long as it's not concentrated (think like water pressure, big opening vs tiny nozzle). So a failure is due to a bad weld or rust being present.

Generally what I wonder about using armor as a pressure vessel is the small caps or ends blowing off and to that I'd think being in a wreck or hitting them on rocks could be triggers? In that case 100 psi being released quickly could do some serious damage.

Feck, that's how I got it, ask Marco.
But, my 4th I think, Time on Chinamans, hit a Large hole and a Rock passenger side. Threw me completely over to Driver side, result Body swap.
Bumper damage, still just Rattle can needs. But certainly will keep this in mind.
Frame was eventually fully POR'd 15 covered, following a Power wash and lot's of Grinding. I got pic's but only able to post those via my Iphone, not laptop.

@fyffer, I wouldn't worry too much. It's all mostly a "what-if" exercise. It would take a person like Marco to analyze it all and whole lengths and multiple welds would have to fail. It doesn't seem likely anyone's bumpers are any risk of blowing apart. If anything maybe pressurizing them could make a little more prone a fracture. Or it might decrease it by having an opposing force to a hit. Dunno.
