Now that is one badass Stout! The tire and wheel combo looks perfect - nice work! The bumper makes the Stout look original and I certainly wouldn't guess it was on a 30 year newer chassis.

How does it drive with the stock 4runner suspension? I would imagine fairly nice with coils all around.

Glad I was able to send the 4runner your way to get this whole thing started. Nice work!

Cheers,
Travis

Thanks Travis! I definitely couldn't have started it without the 4runner, its hard to believe that was over a year ago already.
Like you imagined it drives very nice with the stock 4runner suspension and drivetrain. It also handled remarkably well before i put on the swampers, its amazing how much they move around.

I went for a nice drive this morning and took some high quality photos of the Stout. It's a joy to drive and it seems that it brings an equal amount of joy to those who come across it. I still have plenty of little things to do so stay tuned for more updates!

Awesome! Looks great, and I bet it's a blast to drive. Did you end up selling the original frame and drivetrain?

Looks great. I imagine a lift would compliment those wheels and tires.

I really appreciate everyone's enthusiasm for the Stout, its certainly nice to have a local community of like minded people that appreciate it as much as i do. I hope that it also encourages others to go for it and create something from their imagination and use hard work and ingenuity to get there.
While i was working on this project i became a father and graduated with a Masters of Architecture, sometimes i wouldn't work on the Stout for a month because of other priorities. But just because you cant physically work on your project doesn't mean you cant work through everything in your head while you take care of other things. I was also initially discouraged because i didn't have a lift, a garage, or even a concrete pad to finish this project and thought these things were necessary to take on a project like this. However, with some heavy lifting from a few close friends, encouragement from the forum i.e. YOU PEOPLE, and a very understanding and patient wife i was able to accomplish a personal dream, so thank you all!!

On a different note I deconstructed our patio covering and used the Stout to haul it to the dump. It hauled 960 lbs 35 miles without any issues and although it was sitting low in the back it was a few inches from the bump stops and I didn't have the dreaded front end lightness that happens when you overload. I would say that 1/2 ton is certainly its limit and doubt i would ever want to put more than that in it. On the drive home it felt more spritely than ever and happy to have the weight off its shoulders, or maybe that's just me. Now i just need to find the time to go wheeling...

Gawd i love stuff like this: old steel with modern feel! Super sweet ride! Don't let anybody talk you into repainting it, she's beautiful just the way she is!

I had every intention on doing the BOWAGW but other priorities took precedent, like cutting down this tired old tree. The Stout proved itself ever useful though helping me guide it away from the house as i cut it down, and of course it hauled all of it away.

There seems to be an abundance of them in your neck of the woods...

Guess I need to pay attention to CL more. Every month or two I do a quick check but haven't seen any for sale in awhile. If my 4runner does end up getting melted down to slag in the Creek Fire, maybe I'll get a Stout next. 🤔

Its about time for an update on the Stout. I've been really enjoying it and using it as a truck the last 9 months. Its been relatively trouble free with one exception: It died on me while driving around the neighborhood one day and it turned out to be a bad coil, a quick and easy fix fortunately. Its great having the Ultra Gauge hooked up so I could read the trouble code on the spot and diagnose it in short order. I was also given mud flaps for fathers day and have those mounted up now, I am really excited about receiving those! I was also considering mounting a Pathfinder swingout tire carrier to the back but have decide against doing that. That's pretty much it for updates with lots of little things left to do.
