Congrats!!! You have just become the go-to ls guy now. I think the hardest part of the swap is the motor mounts and the correct position.Saw the emissions referee for my LS swap. It passed so now its a legal swap.![]()
He just took it into the shop and made me wait in the hallway. I looked through the little window here n their and I think he was following some of my harness but I couldn't see much and didn't want to look creepy. 20 minutes later he came out and gave me the certificate and said "nice job on the conversion." I have a pressure sensor and a gm sender in the tank. It's a 2002 5.3 L59 from a suburban but flashed with a 03 Silverado vin. So the numbers need to comply with a 2003 Silverado. I'll try n get the sheet later for my testing numbers. I'm drive by cable and using a dakota digital cruise setup and retrofit to work with the original Toyota cruise stalk. I guess I'm glad I didn't use a Corvette vin. My Nox was kinda close, I'm using high flow cats, so I'm guessing they don't clean up the NOx too much. I think my NOx limit was 6.5 and I got 6.1. He told me they aren't as picky with the evap system. I installed the gm sender last week for evap, and I'm not sure if it passed readiness. I was told it didn't need to. But I kind of want it working since I've come this far. All the other monitors were passed last I checked a few days ago besides evap. Now that I got tags, I'm not in as much of a rush to double check the evap, but I do plan to do so.What numbers are they making you comply to and by how much did you pass? They made me reinspect mine this year... that was after getting it done in 2008. Mine always passes fast pass but by a margin that never made sense. Did they inspect yours with you there or did they take it "back" and just come back with the cert. Did you do a fuel tank level sensor and fuel tank pressure sensor? Did you use an LM7? What year? Did you do Cruise control with a drive by wire throttle body or a cable throttle body and either convert it or use something else?
One thing I did learn is they go off of the PCM VIN. So if you use a corvette VIN in the PCM you can apparently have higher emissions limits like they do.
So are you drive by cable or drive by wire? Here are my numbers FYI. Been the same for years... even the same last year when one of the cats was literally blown out and there were holes in the exhaust. All of that is fixed now. Again it always passes fast pass. I don’t get it... 2003 LM7 from a van so the limits are different probably due to the platform the engine came from.
Goodbye nasty carpet!
