Spent the day doing a tear down of the birfs on the troopy, got to love birfield soup. The drivers side had a bunch of play in the wheel bearings so I decided to tear into it. Bought the rebuild kit from Kurt about a month back.

Took about 5 hours to get torn down, man I hate conical washers. Headed out of town for the weekend so I will have to get it back together next week. Going to have the local hose shop build all new rubber hoses for the front brakes as the OEM hoses are mighty hard.

Finished the rebuild of the birfields today. I decided to do all new rubber brake lines and got some new Asin lock outs from Cruiser Teq as the troopy was originally a full time front axle. No reason to move all the extra parts when it has a part time transfer case. Should help with gear and bearing wear as well as maybe 1/4 of a mile better fuel economy. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Not too bad for an original 32 year old motor, no rebuild or replacement. It does help to have chicken-$h!÷ tires on it for rolling resistance.17534674740202537939954409745062.jpg

I have been working to get the troopy ready for the Dinosaur camping trip over the Labor Day weekend. Picked up a used cargo box for the roof rack. Installed the 270 awning from the 60 and working on fuel solutions to extend my range.

OMFG I haven't been able to start my 81 with the key for like 3 years. I took all the steps to diagnose HDJ81 starting issues, but nothing ever resolved it.

To top it off, after driving up to Loveland to pick up new batteries and installing them at 1am, in my tiredness I installed the RH battery backwards (fuck whoever thinks putting a red cap on the negative terminal is a good idea). So then it wouldn't start, but I didn't know whether it was because I burnt something when I put the battery in backwards or because of the original issue.

At some point in my $2300 part replacement journey I fixed the problem, but didn't know it because the main power relay was blown, but I didn't know it because I had already checked that before I played switcheroo with the battery.

Then there was a short I found at the 4WD Lo Position switch.

Anyways, my truck works like it should now. I'm having a beer to celebrate.

Decided to beat the tariff potential and order the proper Toyota mirrors for the Troopy. It came with small aftermarket mirrors that did not provide a large enough field of view. Direct from Japan, I felt these were reasonable at $116for the pair including freight, they make a huge difference in seeing what's behind you and they look much better.
