What have you done to your rig today?

Now bump that timing back to 10 degree btdc and go drive it until the next time!

One of the tricks I had to do to get my 60 to pass emissions was put the timing back to 7° BTDC, then once it passed, advance it back to 10° for power and better fuel economy.

BTW, the degree symbol is alt-248 😉

Ya, I told Mike last night to retard the engine until it passes which looks like it worked a charm.

BTW, iPhones don’t have an alt button ° 😉

Jeff @Rzeppa did you leave the HAC connected for emissions, and just set the timing to 7 degrees per the manual? I am struggling to get my 60 to pass, failed four times, but getting numbers closer each time. I know my cat isn’t working.

Got those hood struts installed on the 80 no photo for proof you’d have to come help me put the front clip on to see these sweet hood struts.

Yes, left the HAC connected. You could try disconnecting yours and see if that helps? IIRC that's like 3-4° advance when it is active? The biggest issue I had with my 60 was that the Colorado legislature doesn't understand history or science so they let the climate watchdogs make up rules as they go along, torpedoes be damned and facts be damned. Instead of ppm of CO now we have GPM. That wasn't a thing Toyota engineers had to deal with in the 1980s but it is now. The Colorado legislature keeps moving the goalposts to get our "clunkers" off the road, right?

Don’t forget the HAC also leans out the mixture. That will decrease CO but increase NOx. If you disconnect the HAC for timing purposes just remember you’re richening the mixture through the rpm range, especially ~2000-2500rpm cruise. CO goes up, NOx will go down.

Over torquing master, had to drill and retap both lower bolts to firewall side. But done, so I assume something like this?

Been a while since I posted anything here, but haven't had much time for working stuff. Radiator finally cracked though, so figured this was a good time to replace oil cooler seals and hoses too (man that was a pain), and do the alternator brushes while the alternator was out (picture attached of old and new). Hopefully putting everything back together today without any leaks but we will see...

Notice: Tach is not on zero and “P” is illuminated. :-)
Nothing is impossible if you throw money at Dakota Digital and spend hours. 😵‍💫
Oil pressure was loads easier.
Now, how do I move the redline up. IMG_2628.jpeg

I feel like there was someone in Russia that was making custom(ish) speedo and tach inserts on FB or 'mud.

Yea, I'm just going to find out where the rev limiter hits and go from there.... (FYI should be 5500 so the 80's 5,000 will be fine)

Tonight's project: decode the cruise control switch: I am removing the resistors and turning it into a straight momentary switch which I then hope to retrofit to column-mounted which is better than wheel mounted anyway!

I bought a seal, maybe 10 years ago now? Still haven't put it in. Pulling the steering shaft seems like a PITA. I saw that Solve Function offers a 2 piece split seal that is installed wo/ pulling the steering shaft.

I did it on the 80 and I recall it was actually very simple. Just disconnected the shaft in the cab. There was a single bolt keeping the spines tight.
