10 days and counting......
If your thinking of what to bring for food and other stuff, thought I would reacap some suggetions....
Food
Breakfasts.....
Thursday and Sunday we will be in a bit of a hurry to break camp so breakfast burritos or something to eat on the go will be best..
Friday and Saturday, if you want to bring half a dozen eggs and your favorite breakfast meet to participate in the big breakfast I make that would be great.
We could also use a couple packages of tortillas, medium size. I make pancakes to go along with the eggs and meat but if pancakes are not your thing, we can warm up some tortillas.
I will bring my coffee maker, I think Romer has a good coffee maker also. Coffee presses are good to have, if you don't have one yet.
Lunches.......on your own
Dinners....
Wednesday night on your own
Thursday night/Friday night group dinners
Saturday night is usally left overs...cook it all kind of night
Bring a package of burgers/brauts/steak/chicken..whatever you want for dinners..We usually cook dinner family style and share what we have.
Rifle, CO Walmart
If enroute you forgot something, Rifle has a Walmart just off the freeway, they carry Shwag bags in the camping section and sell a PET toilet version for 25.00... You need to make sure you have a personal PET setup, no digging in Canyonlands.
Weather
I checked the 10 day forcast just now, next week 20% chance of rain on Tuesday and 40% chance of snow on Thursday. The beginning of our week it looks Sunny and in the low 50s high 40s, I did a weather search for Hanksville UT, closer then Moab to our area and more accurate. we will see weather head straight to Moab from canyonlands and sometimes bypass us..
Why we are watching this is two fold, we obviously want to see what our weather will be but also we want to see what comes before us, as we will be traveling at high elevation in the Monte La Sals that are south of Beef Basin. If the snow is too deep there, we have some alternate routes to continue on our journey.
Marco was in the Beef Basin Area this weekend and said some areas had 3 inches of snow or less and most of the trail was dry or a little muddy.
Clothes
Don't forget to bring layers and a down coat if you have it. Good hiking boots that you can walk a few miles in.
Hike on Friday
The Harvest scene hike on Friday can be done in two ways...A shorter 5 mile hike and a longer 10 mile hike. Depending on what every one wants to do, we could even split up groups and converge at the Harvest scene and then hike out together..
