Is the LC market cooling off?

I've been watching the market for about a decade now. I've been hoping to find an 80 series that is in good enough shape to restore on my shoestring budget while teaching my son to wrench, or a 100 series to just drive the crap out of with low maintenance. I feel like it's just all been out of reach for the whole time. Suddenly I'm seeing more stock and prices that seem oddly affordable for my expectations. Is this just me, or is the market actually cooling off?

It seems the 100s are getting into a really sweet spot in terms of pricing.

We are considering selling the Tundra for a 100 and a winter beater Taco.

Love the 100 series. I miss mine every day.

Cooling off? I don’t know. They’re old now. The neglected ones are cheaper now than during covid, but the well kept examples are going for a mint.

It seems like the 100 market is definitely cooling down. I'm starting to see a few in my area...for reference I live in a rough ish area and when cars depreciate enough they start floating around my hood....we're getting teslas too 😆

Maybe it's just because everything else has gotten so damn expensive that Cruisers seem like a deal now.

It’s the economy… Not a good time to be selling some stuff.

Bad time to buy because inflation, job market, housing prices etc aren’t so great and money is generally tight for a lot of folks. Those same things make it a great time to sell for some extra liquid cash … but there’s not as many buyers.

Things are really soft right now. Some of these trucks that are on the market would have sold in days during the height of covid, they’re now sitting for months or a year. I’m seeing it all over- vintage guitar market, big tools (I’m looking for a lathe or a mill and an industrial sewing machine right now), etc. Sale ads are sitting and rotting because nobody is paying what most sellers are asking.

I’ve been saying for about 12 months now that 100s are currently the best deal in Cruisers. $4-6k for something that needs basic baselining and maybe 1-2 pieces of overdue maintenance addressed. For that price you get extreme reliability, leather, a V8, a smooth modern feeling ride, great build quality, and off road capabilities to boot. It’s a lot of car for the money. But even 100s in that price range sit for a month before they sell. Beyond 100 prices being relatively low, buyers still have bargaining power. Go work a deal!
