And so does our attorney.

Our son was involved in a 4-car accident this week. He is 16 and has been driving for just short of 7 months. A truck 2 cars behind him did not stop for traffic and pushed three cars into each other. Our son being in the middle of those three. The police dept called today asking when we could come down to station and pick up his citation for the accident. I just about lost my :poop:. The officer's claim is that he was following too close. I was like he was stopped or nearly stopped? Anyway I suggested she see the game tape of the accident from his dash cam. After review her tune changed, police report revised and he has been cleared of any charges.

My suggestion is to definitely put a dash cam in your child's car. This totally felt like our son being treated with bias over his age. This camera may have just saved his ability to drive as any additional increase to insurance may not have been bearable to my bank account.

This is the camera that was in his car, there are many like it but this one was his. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BJZQ37G7?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

I have an OEM camera in my LC250 with a new Kenwood on the way for the 80. My old 80-series one died. Marianne is now on board with one in her car after this experience. I turn the microphone off on all my cameras. No one should hear my daily commentary on other drivers or anything else for that matter.

Agreed! You can get some neat wheeling footage also... from both the forward facing and rear facing cameras

I really like the all in one units that are like $120 from Amazon. you'll spend way more than that on a double din unit and likely get less features. Plus they're easy to swap in the future if they stop working, or they come out with a better one, etc. This is the one I have currently in the 80...

Abso-freakin-lutely.

Pops was out last month and was questioning my cam. This is exactly why. NextBase is what I have, well worth the couple hundred bucks.

I have gone through a few. They don't seem to last. Currently I have a Rove brand. I tried the wiFi interface recently to see @CardinalFJ60 catch air in his 100 and it was lousy.

I just want a good one! Three actually. I want them in all trucks.

@Inukshuk I have only used this brand, but they have never failed*.

Well, one did but that was because it was left on in the blistering sun and the battery bulged. I do not use any of the integrations, just video FIFO and hit save when ever I see a doozy.

Sorry to hear this.

I personally would file a complaint for negligence and malfeasance.

In my opinion it is completely wrong to issue a summons based on an incomplete investigation. Period. I don't care what her reasoning was, if the officer hadn't interviewed your son and asked about any additional evidence (eg:dashcam, etc.) but determined fault based on an incomplete investigation they were negligent.

I'd approach it as a learning opportunity but, also get it documented because no matter what they say there is now a record showing your son was at fault. These types of records come back at the worse possible time such as: College, Military, insurance company checks, Background checks, Polygraph exams, high level jobs, Security Clearances, etc....

Also, make sure to keep hardcopies of these records for the foreseeable future. (eg: copy of original report, narrative, crash diagram, amended reports correcting original narrative, copies of deleted summons, copy of your written complaint regarding the inaccurate investigation and copies of his current local jurisdiction criminal/traffic history since traffic incidents will get entered into the statewide system for anyone over the age of 15 and it's there for good so, if the original report was coded as a traffic accident and he was listed at fault then it's in the state system that way forever no matter what the officer says.

This comes from someone that supervised LEO's for over 28 years with the last 3 years in Colorado.

I have them in all of our cars. I figured it's the best protection since I only carry liability insurance on all our cars. If we get in an accident and it's our fault, so be it. But if I have footage proving otherwise then hopefully their insurance will cover any damages(we drive pretty cautious so hopefully we'll never be at fault, but you never know). Glad you proved it's worth!

We have one in our Tiger Camper for when we travel around the country because out of state RV's are target vehicle's for organized crime insurance scams.

Same applies to any vehicle out of state plates since that's part of their victim profile.

i started a decade or so ago when in had puff the evil wagon. someone almost side swiped me going to a rs meeting (instinct kicked in and i swerved, held the horn and yelled obscenities). i realized if i had had a dash cam, i could let them wreck little puff and have proof they were at fault and then sue them for all the money i had in that evil little runner.

since then, i've save a halliburton truck driver a lot of headache when a family from texas plowed into him as he was swinging a turn. also proved good footage for the two cars in front of me that the halliburton truck got pushed sideways into.

i just have the cheapy rove's, but they've done what i needed them to do.

I have a Wolfbox in my 100, and a Rove in my wife's RX......I like them both. I didn't do the Wolfbox in the RX for simplicity sake, there is already a lot of electronics in that car and wanted to keep the camera separate. The Wolfbox I like in the 100, but it does take a little "getting used to" with regards to the rear view mirror aspect....I can't lean over and check my hairdo in the "mirror" anymore! (Says the guy with a constant #2 buzz cut)

Did the same a few years ago when a knuckle head had to turn in front of me and plowed into a parked work van on the other side of the street. Got to the shop and walked back, they freakin' just bailed, no note no nothing.
