I live in a college town. Last weekend a group of sorority girls were walking down the street past my house as I was moving my fj60 from my drive to a spot on the street. I overheard one of them say "why does he have all that stuff on his car?" (I assume she was referring to bumpers, lights, winch, rack, ham antenna, rtt, etc.) Her friend replied something about "batmobile..."

oh God, my camping and wheeling rig has become an "overlander"!

Time to tone it down I guess, at least between road trips. I'll never be able to look at it again with all my gear (or any 4wd with too many bolt on goodies) without thinking "Batmobile!" 🤣🦇

Well, this is pretty simple.
The opinions of sorority girls matter 0.00% in all matters. Pay no attention to their idiotic ways and opinions. Continue to be awesome.

...because that's all the further that Rover made it.
That's clearly not the case, it's at the top of the hill.

"I didn't want to risk it during a lightning storm so I camped lower."

Which is of course cover for "My Rover's starter failed and I ran out of pop starts."

Overlanding/CarCamping at 16 in 1980 = 1977 Honda CVCC, crappy Pup tent, sleeping bag, $40 cash (for gas, food, etc....), cooler with hotdogs and exploring the great Missouri Ozark's = Freedom back then.
