It’s 3 different slee harnesses over the years. It’s the non-Toyota headlight connector that has failed (2x right side, once on the left).

While I was replacing the connectors to an H4, I checked the resistance of all the wires for exactly that reason. 0.03 ohms was the highest.

There are fuses.

I assume that the non-Toyota connector is just ever so slightly looser fitting than Toyota, and that it must wiggle more and gets some water in there at an in opportune time to case it to burn up. None of them have been slow, they’ve always just not worked one day with no browning ahead of time when I’ve checked.

None matter, because now I’ve got quality H4 sockets on there that I also covered up with heat shrink.

Dan

FWIW I pack the sockets full of dielectric grease on pronged headlight connections. Doesn't necessarily help with loose fit but seems to help with water intrusion.

I had a bulb(s) failure less than a year after installing the Slee headlight harness on my 80. I came out of a restaurant to the parking lot after dinner one evening and both headlights were out. I had to drive home using the high beams.
I found a thread (either here or on mud) that described similar issues with the Slee harness.
The solution was to pack the connectors with dielectric grease and zip tie them together to hold the connection tight.
It’s been around two years since then and I haven’t had any issues. Knock on wood.
I’ve’nt thought much about it since then, but the size of the connector could certainly be a factor.

Hard to believe a week ago we were swapping it at the shop, feels like I've had it forever. Tent up, road ready, it does not matter. Find myself stopping to admire it more than I should admit!

Installed a WolfBox G900Pro in the boy’s 5th gen. I hate this kind of work but it’s worth it. The camera in his Subaru saved him from getting a ticket. Loving the super wide angle rear camera. Also impressed with all the 4Runner interior clips and headline retainers. Knock on wood I don’t think I’m going to break any.

This is my 4th dash cam install now. I’ve come to the conclusion you should just disassemble the interior for easy access out of the gate. Trying to force wiring behind the headliner and trim is just a constant battle. Make it easy on yourself.

Rear camera wiring is the worst. Need to get it above the headliner and behind the side curtains.

Found a 3D printed bracket to mount the rear camera cleanly with a OEM headliner button. https://exigex.com/products/5th-gen-toyota-4runner-rear-dash-camera-mount?variant=54115570286876

Tapped the power seat circuit for constant power and the 12v outlet circuit for switched.

New Cooper Discover XLTs 315s, 17” FN Wheels, distributor, rotor, spark plugs, wires, rear heater delete, rad hoses, fan and clutch, heater valve, water pump, resealing just about EVERYTHING but the rear main, OEM radius arm bushings with SLEE Caster plates, Metaltech sliders, new 4Runner visors and about 100 little things over the last 5 weeks…

What was supposed to be “greens and groomers” break in run for leaf peepin with the risk adverse wives, turned into a washed out county road, some butt puckering that almost got it on its side and was able to throttle out of. Sadly, 3rd gen got in a tricky spot and snapped an CV axle. Both 80s and the stock (minus the Gavimiti rack and wheels) all faired well. The wives watched from below and I’m sure called us idiots the whole time…

I’m gathering parts to swap the rear “pumpkin” in my 07 FJ Cruiser from an 8.0 to a later 8.2 which requires going with the later axle housing as well, so I’m going with a gusseted housing like the aussies get while I’m at it.

Been a while since I did anything, but went to go somewhere last week and got the crank no start. Did some looking and I think it's the fuel pump. I pulled the connector and it has power while cranking (11ish volts). Tested pins 4 and 5 on the fuel pump side which measured an open circuit when it's supposed to be < 1 ohm, so I think that means the pump is probably bad. I changed the fuel filter not too long ago so that should be ok.

The gas gauge has never worked quite right either so I am going to replace the pump and the fuel level sending unit this weekend while everything is apart.

Plus I broke a bolt head taking off the fuel tank skid plate, hopefully that's not a sign of how this job is going to go.

One of you guys posted a FJ40 hardtop for FREE in Silverthorne. I went and snagged it from Justin a veterinarian who has a sweet ‘78. He was moving up the road to a nicer house with an unobstructed view and needed the top out of the barn as he closes on the sale of the house today. He purchased the top from Classic Cruisers several years ago but only drives the 40 in good weather. I can say that 45mph is the safe speed when transporting a 40 top on a Subaru on I-70.

Did he separate the fiber from the metal rail?
Yep is that going to be a problem? My knowledge on the 40’s is way less than the 45’s. The 45’s have a metal roof so there’s no concern on a separation issue.

I updated the shift knob on my FJ43 with this sweet 1974 vintage Toyota shift knob. Smooth shifting ahead!
now that's an anti-theft device if I ever seen one. :ROFLMAO:
