My dad didn't show me near this much! Brakes and carb adjust were about the extent of my dad's teachings! Wyatt is lucky!

We didn't have a garage until I was almost in high school but yet dad managed to repaint cars, pull an engine (VW so it just took a couple of people to lift it out), do clutches. Wasn't nearly as comprehensive education as Wes here, more financial necessity and the traditional view that your son is free labor while he's living under your roof.

There is some of that Mike, do you know which way is tightening and loosening cause you are going to break that valve cover going the wrong way tightening the shit out of that nut.

Sometime amateurs do amateur things and break the new ring. Ughh. I put the rings on the first piston and installed it. Rings are marked top and sometimes beveled and I forgot to look. I pulled the piston and i had it upside down. Trying to removed the new rings to flip it around I broke one. I didn’t break any of the oem rings removing them.

Ridge reamer on #6 removing the carbon ring. Have to remove that ridge to eliminate the chance of damaging the ring grooves.

Time to take the bib off too and tend to other things while I order new rings again.

While the coolant is drained I pulled the front heater to clean the rest of the mice crap out. I Cleaned out the defrost hoses and throughly cleaned the heater core and the box. The plastic top was missing the lip for the screw in the back and and had a duct tape repair. Luckily I found a good top on mud. Waiting on that for assembly. I also have a heater rebuild kit from specter to replace all the foam.

Also installed a new heater valve.

Seats and new cushions installed. Nice to be in the cruiser. On of the seat backings ripped on install when pulling it down. I ended up hog ringing it.

The shade tree engine rebuild didn’t work out. I’ll keep driving it for a bit to see if the rings seat but I’m not hopeful. Oil pressure is great but it has the same rough idle and smokes. Compression didn’t change either. :(

If anyone has a line on a similar year dome piston 2f engine let me know 75-78. If not we’ll pull the block and take it to Gunn.

I recreated a Stevinson Lakewood sticker for my 1976 restoration. If you’d like one let me know. 👍
