My previous pup Oscar, a 90 pound black and tan coonhound, slept under the covers every night. Whether I wanted him there or not. I had to learn to leave the blankets untucked on the bottom or when he heard danger and bolted out of bed, there'd be issues... He also loved snuggling under blankets with my wife on the couch.
Dang, I miss that dog. For 14 years, our lives seemingly revolved around Oscar. He was my boy, my best buddy, my partner in crime, the best shop dog I could have asked for, and one of my only true sources of happiness. I made a life long commitment to him even before I made one with my wife. I even joke that he was the only reason Sarah was with me.
I found Oscar at the Longmont Humane Society in April of 2009. He had been in multiple homes and shelters during his first 9 months of life. Being given up on by a couple different homes due to behavioral issues. But I fell in love with him at first sight. He was a little rough around the edges, and just needed a little guidance. Exactly like me.
Through the years, he proved to be a handful. His antics always impressed and he brought much humor and love into our lives. And left us with thousands of memories of his crazy self. He spent the majority of his time with me as my shop has always been on our property. Oscar was a shining light for me through all the world had to throw at me. And I will be forever grateful for that.
