Looks good! Want to do mine next? I have lots of cold beer and warm Bourbon..... how many hours of prep did you have into it?

I would say for removing the front end, prep, masking, spraying and replacing everything a total of four days from 7am to 6pm. I ended up rattle canning my front grill and the trim pieces around the head and turn lights too.

My 73 FJ40 is down at Redline. I like how they post pictures of the work as it progresses

I had an issue with my fuel tank. It was leaking out of the top seal and wasnt really designed to be pressurized

Here is my new fuel tank from Man a Fre made by BTP products. It was designed to be pressurized

My old one is a 22 gallon aux tank. Anyone want to buy it? It will need a new seal and stuff on the top

Ok, now I am done. Got my new Toyota Land Cruiser badge for the rear hatch. Thanks @MountainGoat for getting the dimensions to mask off. Since I bought the rig back in 2012 it has always been toasted so to have a new one makes me all gushy inside.

Thanks Mike. After the build thread that you and Treeroot did for your group 40 project, it seemed anything else was superfluous. You guys nailed it! (y)

I bought the rig shown in the above link from Steve Propise (Rckhound) in July of 2014 to fix up, have a little fun with and to sell. As can be seen in the link, it's a '79 frame, chassis and running gear from the transmission back with a strong '76 2F propelling it. The tub is an '83. All the rusty mustard parts from the early pictures have been swapped out with rust and bondo free replacements. Paint - OEM beige - was sprayed by a professional truck painter who moonlights in his own shop and it's way better than any Maaco paint job. Same guy, Gonzalo, sprayed Simps80 and Treeroot's 40 that was so well documented here not that long ago. I'm in the process of putting things back together now and most of the weatherstripping is new OEM. Amazing what Toyota still makes for the old 40s. I've heard that Toyota is considering bringing back many NLA parts for them as they realize the aftermarket niche is quite lucrative and good for the brand.
As I work pretty slowly, finish date will be sometime this winter with the truck going up for sale early next year. Being a Franken40, it won't be a pristine collector's item but will be a really solid and good looking trail rig that's also big fun just to putt around town in.
