What have you done to your rig today?

I bought the rig shown in the above link from Steve Propise (Rckhound) in July of 2014 to fix up, have a little fun with and to sell. As can be seen in the link, it's a '79 frame, chassis and running gear from the transmission back with a strong '76 2F propelling it. The tub is an '83. All the rusty mustard parts from the early pictures have been swapped out with rust and bondo free replacements. Paint - OEM beige - was sprayed by a professional truck painter who moonlights in his own shop and it's way better than any Maaco paint job. Same guy, Gonzalo, sprayed Simps80 and Treeroot's 40 that was so well documented here not that long ago. I'm in the process of putting things back together now and most of the weatherstripping is new OEM. Amazing what Toyota still makes for the old 40s. I've heard that Toyota is considering bringing back many NLA parts for them as they realize the aftermarket niche is quite lucrative and good for the brand.
As I work pretty slowly, finish date will be sometime this winter with the truck going up for sale early next year. Being a Franken40, it won't be a pristine collector's item but will be a really solid and good looking trail rig that's also big fun just to putt around town in.

Not in a position today, but if timing is right next year, I'd love to be considered for the new owner position. The truck looks awesome, great work!

Ok, now I am done. Got my new Toyota Land Cruiser badge for the rear hatch. Thanks @MountainGoat for getting the dimensions to mask off. Since I bought the rig back in 2012 it has always been toasted so to have a new one makes me all gushy inside.

Does it come with adhesive or what did you use to stick it on? Mine is loose, tried some 3M decal adhesive, seems loose again, maybe didn’t do it right.

The new one has an adhesive backing on it already. I had to use an abrasive grinding disk to get all of the old adhesive off and then prepped the area with some self etching primer and then used a adhesive promoter on top of the prepped self etching primer. Seems to be pretty solid so far.

My winch is wired into the bumper. I hid the controls box in the bumper. Did a bench test to make sure it works. Installed a led light to light up the spool for night winching.

I like that- is there going to be a cover plate for the spool of cable?

Nah, it’s going to get a baseline, tires, some cosmetic fixes and then just drive it. It’s got a 3.4 swap that runs great and gets good gas mileage. The first haunt in it I got 24 mpg over the course of 3 gallons. Not really enough data to establish real numbers but it certainly beats DD the 80. It also beats the Pathfinder in mpg’s and @MountainGoat wont point and laugh at me anymore. Well, at least not for driving a Nissan. 😜

A new Fuel tank designed to be pressurized so no more leaks or fumes. It is made by BTP Products and you can buy directly from them. Their website had more info than Man-Fre on the tank

My steel wheels have one bent and I had to run 1/4 inch spacers on the front as the ones I have hit the calipers. Well be replaced Saturday with Aluminum wheels with the right offset to clear the brakes

I “liked” this comment but it should really be a “shedding a tear for you” button. 😢
