If you're really interested Matt, I could drive down there and put eyes on it for you. Easy day trip. I don't get what he's saying about the wheels. Those should clear. I would want to drive it and make sure it runs.

I have a truck and trailer too if you want to stash it in Iowa for awhile. 😉

@Hulk - I'm traveling back home mostly via secondary roads starting from Rolla early next week. Lawrence (thus easily Leavenworth) could be on the route. It wouldn't take much arm twisting to divert to KCI around Tuesday or so... Larned wasn't in my plan, though.

Thanks Martin and Dave. I'm on the fence and the timing isn't good at the moment. I will sit on it for a few weeks and then follow up with him. With all that rust, it's not going to be an immediate sale at $13.5k.

@Hulk My folks live less than one hour from KC/Leavenworth area. If it comes down to needing a place to stash it temporarily, they have plenty of room on their 200 acre ranch.

My 2 cents on price based on condition would be $10k. The year and options are worth the that much IMHO. Put $20k into it and still not be upside down.

Looks like a fun project Matt... man that's a lot of rust though. I guess depends on how much project you want to tackle? the factory AC is pretty cool.. and it looks like it's got the ashtray on the center console, fwiw that's a $500 item now probably. Even though you'd probably pull it to run a tuffy ;)

@rover67 is your 82 expert, yeah would be good to have another one around for our annual top secret 82 run. Also fair to note that it being this new you'll have to get emissions every 5 years. Which shouldn't be a big deal as you can get it running well enough, but does mean you'll have to source a cat for it. Might not be the biggest priority today tho
I think you're looking at a big project. Is it worth 13k? It might be the smallest part of the investment so i'm not sure it even matters what you pay for it wheter its 10k or 13k. It'll need doors and the frame looks like even though it's not too bad, would require a strip and repairs and repaint. This project would either be a lot (lot) of your time with a welder and some dedicated space or a lot of money for somebody else to do body on it. lots pf parts are also NLA or $$. people have bought up all the OEM parts and are reselling them so prices are somewhat fixed. Think windshield wiper motor/linkages, center console, etc. I think there are nice aftermakrket dash pads and floor mats and stuff now and you'd also need to figure out what kind of resto you'd be doing.

I bet you'd need to baseline everything to make it a driver even though he states it runs and drives.

Not trying ot be a turn off..

The most affordable 40 you will ever buy is one that another person has put the time and money into a quality restoration. Unless you have the skillset and space to do everything yourself they can get expensive fast.

A friend of mine told me this about it:
"Love that thing but it has way more issues than he lists, I almost bought it for 1800 several months back... needs oil pan gasket, driveshafts are held on by a thread, rear diff clunks at low speed, front chatters bad when cornering... I offered him 600 and he was like "it's worth way more than even 1800" 🙄 I would switch the rear axle all together to a Taco axle (should just bolt in) as the Priva one was super weak and the metal was thin, they were only rated to tow 2000 because the rear axel would bend with much more over that."

So looking at at least $2k in parts.

50% off retail. They work. I have this one.

The weBoost Drive Reach amplifies cellular signal for all U.S. carriers, providing clearer calls and faster data speeds. Perfect for road trips, RVs, and remote areas. Includes all original accessories and works great.

Rare dealer option called a “King Cab”. I forget which dealership did this, but it’s akin to the pre-4Runner Trekker models that a dealer in Minnesota(?) was building.

Winnebago did the Trekker upfitting. Winnebago was an Iowa company for a long time although they recently relocated their HQ to Minnesota. I have no idea where the actual factory was, Iowa, maybe Indiana or Florida or Minnesota or somewhere else? I'm not sure which dealer you went to, a Toyota or a Winnebago.

Those super long cabs were known as California Custom Cabs, done by a company called Fabco. You could order your truck built through a Toyota dealer, who sent your new truck off, the frame was extended to accommodate the fiberglass body modification.

I've never figured out for sure but I think the Fabco that did them is the same Fabco (so technically FABCO originally) in Oakland, CA, who upfits and builds fire trucks and that sort of thing. They did 4x4 and other conversions on lots of medium and heavy trucks for decades. No joke, way, way back they saw Ford's Model T and thought "We can make this thing more cooler."

Saw this on MP but don’t know much about it. Freespirit 270 awnings for $300. Looks like they’re being sold by Freespirit directly due to sun fading on the cover. Or maybe it’s a scam, I don’t know. It says no messages, just go to Freespirit in Golden.

Anybody used one of these? Thoughts?

Doesn't seem like a Scam if it has you going to their store. I don't know anything about the product. The company has been around a while and several here have gotten stuff there.
