1979 Mini Cooper with a Honda VTEC engine. That's got to be hoot.

I wonder what the power is like with the Toyota V8, I have never driven one.

Is there anybody on here that can give me a comparison to the older FJ80 straight six that has driven both?

There is more seat of the pants power with the V8 for sure, but IMHO they made the V8 way under powered for the platform. Too me it feels sluggish for the displacement.

I would rather the V8 over the 6 but it isn't as big of an improvement as you might first think.

The I6 feels sluggish compared to the V8. It's not gobs of power that merican's are used to but it's a nice healthy increase. I can go up the mtns with towing where the 80 would be going 25-or 35. It's a solid motor. Having both i'd rather have the v8 which is hard for me to say because I'm an old skool land cruiser lover and the straight 6 has always made the cruiser legendary.

there are quite a few people that have had an 80 and moved to 100

What a huge difference the extra transmission gear makes in the '03 and later trucks. The engine is always ready to rev and is far from sluggish, even with the truck's interior heavily loaded with rack and tent on top. Of course, an extra gear behind the I6 would be a boon too.

If you want to go look at it (the mini) let me know, I used to work on them and restored one from the ground up concours style.

No way can I afford it but I'll remember that. My wife does want a classic Mini someday.

This takes me back to the mid '60s - that's mid 1960's for you young whippersnappers - when Mom, Dad and I all drove in parking lot gymkhanas. The cars you would see! Lotus Super 7s, Sunbeam Alpine Tigers, Corvettes, real Cobras, real Shelby GT350s and, once, a GT40 that I got to sit in. There were Jaguar XK 140s and E types, Triumphs and MGs of all sorts, 2-cycle powered Saabs, Austin-Healy 3000s and any number of other cars that I can't recall at the moment, having fun on a Sunday morning at the local shopping mall burning up some rubber.
Top time of the day, however, almost always went to one of two Mini Cooper S that regularly showed up. If not one of those two, there was a Meyers Manx with a six cylinder Porsche 911 engine that could hang with them on the twisty little courses and a few Corvairs that, on a good day, were right there, too. The two Mini guys were race car drivers while the rest of us were wannabe racers and they didn't need high horsepower to get around the course at max speed. One of the Mini's brake system had been modified so that, with dual hand brakes, one side or the other could be stopped like a tracked caterpiller bulldozer, making the the car's ridiculous turning radius even tighter! Like we wheelers use left foot braking for low speed control, these guys used it too, only they would just leave the throttle floored practically all of the time and control their speeds in the corners with the individual hand brakes. It was amazing to watch - it was like the Mini guys were on rails and not a whole lot like in the youTube video. That driver was sure having fun, though.
Sorry, no pictures, so it must not have happened, but it sure makes me smile to remember those times.
Thanks for posting the video up, Marco. :thumb:

FJ60  spendy but low miles, H55, squeaky clean, and the best color:

uh, is that price correct? That is crazy money.. You could buy a 60 for 2-3K and put 10k in it if you really wanted and it would be that nice.. Maybe I am wrong.

That seems more worth about 8-10K, but if the market will pay, than I guess that is what it is worth.
